Eat for Cash: Labor Day 2009 Weekend

Lori Voth
Labor Day 2009 is apparently a hot weekend for Major League Eating and related Sports Eating events. Competitive Eating Contests have sprung up all over the country, attracting former champions as well as amateurs motivated to eat for cash.

Many of the eating competitions will take place at local Labor Day celebrations or festivals. Unfortunately, research found that the majority of the sponsors did not provide many details or the contests were too small or community oriented to draw much media attention. A few of the eating events, however, particularly some of the larger ones associated with the International Federation of Competitive Eaters (I.F.O.C.E.) seemed to have been given more attention. Summaries, specifics and contact info for those are provided below.

World Kolache Eating Championship
September 4, 2009
Minute Maid Park, Union Station, Texas and Crawford, Houston, TX 77002

On Friday, September 4th the Kolache Factory will host its annual Kolache Eating Championship. The event will take place in Houston, TX at Minute Maid Park following the Houston Astros vs. Philadelphia Phillies game. This year the challenge will award $10,000 cash to whoever can eat the most sausage and cheese kolaches. In previous years winners gulped down as many as 56 pastries in one sitting. Registration for this competitive eating contest is closed but you can be a witness to the battle if you attend the baseball game. For more information contact The Kolache Factory.

Come watch some of the world's most prolific competitive eaters in the challenge to consume the most Buffalo wings. For International Federation of Competitive Eaters (I.F.O.C.E.) only, the contest is not open to amateurs; which is sure to guarantee a close battle between some very serious eaters and some very action packed entertainment.

Buffalo Buffet Bowl
Labor Day Weekend, 2009
Coca-Cola Field, 275 Washington St, Buffalo, NY 14203

The Buffalo Buffet Bowl is a bit different than traditional competitive eating contests. Instead of trying to eat the most food, competitors must race to finish their "Buffet Bowl" first, a container which consists of various food items made with buffalo style chicken.
The Buffalo Buffet Bowl represents yet another exciting eating contest to be held during the upcoming Labor Day weekend at the Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, NY. This challenge, however, will include both experienced competitive eaters as well as amateurs, all competing for three prizes totaling $1750.
