What are sprouts?

Any vegetable seed sprouts to give a new plant. This is what sprout is a vegetable seed just emerging from its dormant sate to grow to be a new big plant. Probably the best known sprouts are alfalfa sprout but you can find (or make your self) any sprout form any vegetable seed. You could make sprouts from wheat, black beans, white beans, red beans, lentils, pumpkin seeds, alfalfa, chia seeds, etc.

Can you buy sprouts?

The answers is Yes! I prefer to do them myself but take sometime and effort. When choosing sprouts you have to follow certain guidelines. Make sure the sprouts have white stems and if it has leaves that they look new and tender, not darkish and old. Please check expiration dates and do not buy them if they are close to expiration. Eat them as soon as you buy them. Do not store then for long times. After all sprout are a new growing tissue and they get old pretty easy.

Why do you have to eat sprouts?

The short answer is because they are healthy. The long answer: sprouts are an excellent addition to your diet that is rich in flavors, smells, and texture and in addition they are rich in nutrients that you can not get from any other food. Think about it. Seeds remain dormant until they hatch (OK sprout!) what do you think the new plant needs. You are right nutrients and that its what the sprouting does release all those nutrients packed in the seed for the new plant so go and get those when you decide to eat them. Why do I say that they add healthier compounds to your diet? Look at this fact: bean sprouts are a great source of potassium, (154 mg for a 1 Cup serving). Bean sprouts also offer vitamin A, and phosphorous.

On another field (the culinary) you get new tastes, s,smells and texture when you add sprouts to your food. For example to a salad or a sandwich or a soup. Try it!. I guarantee you will like
