One of my favorite festivals is the Amite Oyster Festival. This year the Amite Oyster Festival will be held on March 20-22, 2009 in Amite, LA. It is a fun festival for all ages and one you should never miss if you love to eat oysters! Oysters will be available cooked in a variety of ways, including fresh on the half shell and fried.
Here is a breakdown on the weekend's events at the Amite Oyster Festival:
Amite Oyster Festival
The Amite Oyster Festival will start on Friday, March 20, 2009 and end on Sunday, March 22, 2009. The festival is held at the Tangipahoa Parish Fairgrounds in Amite, LA. The midway opens at 3:00 pm on Friday with local entertainment from dance studios in the area taking the stage from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm to showcase local talent. "The Domino" takes the stage next at 8:00 pm and ends at 11:00 pm.
Saturday's events kick off with a parade that starts sharply at 10:00 am at the Amite Elementary School and commences at the fairgrounds close to the noon hour. Events for the day include the midway opening at 12:00 pm, the Hot Sauce Band takes the stage and an oyster eating contest is held. Jenny Brooks takes the stage from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm, followed by Hard to Handle until 8:00 pm. Closing out the entertainment for the evening will be Todd O'Neil, who will entertain the crowd until 11:00 pm.
On Sunday, March 22, 2009 the midway opens at noon and remains open until 5:00 pm. Broken Silence opens the entertainment for the day at noon and plays until 2:30 pm. Greg Haden & Vintage takes over at 2:30 and plays until the close of the festival at 5:00 pm.
