Eat, Pray, Love

I finally finished Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. It was a breathtakingly beautiful book. Elizabeth Gilbert takes you on a soul-searching journey with intimate details you would share only with a bestfriend. It reminded me of my own spiritual journey which I have been in for the last couple of years. Spiritual living is not a destination but a way of living. I recommend the book. I hope you are far along enough on your own spiritual journey to capture the depths of this book. I've heard the book gets mixed reviews. Some people just don't get it. Like Eckhart Tolle's New Earth, you most likely have to have some higher-level of consciousness to grasp the message of the book. It might take you a while to read through it because you want to stop and reflect. But then as soon as you are through, you'll want to read it again.

By the way, the movie doesn't come close to covering the depth of what is in the book. They kept the movie more mainstream, less dense, and too watered down in terms of the spirituality Elizabeth had covered in her book. I still enjoyed the movie. Julia Robertswas great. The acting was wonderfully cast and the performances were wonderful. That wasn't the problem. There was something about the way the movie was filmed which felt like they were keeping the audience at a distance. The movie would have gone over better if they just kept the filming/camera angles as they are for most movies instead of trying whatever they did which I found distracting and took away from the movie's experience.

I also just finished Eat, Pray, Love! Just last week! I put off reading the book for quite a while because I have read many critical comments on the book, all in the vein of--"Oh, poor rich woman isn't happy with her life, so sad..." Of course, that was a major lesson to me not to put so much weight into others' criticism. I absolutely loved the book and can't wait to read her new one, "Committed," about her marriage to Filipe. I will probably see the movie eventually, although I know I will be disappointed that it doesn't quite do the book justice...but then, movies never do quite live up to our favorite books.

Movies never seem to rise to the books...I haven't read the book or seen the movie yet...think I'll see the movie first so I'm not disappointed:)
