'Eat, Pray, Love' Eats it as the Worst Movie of the Year

A movie that stars Julia Roberts should be excellent; however, "Eat, Pray, Love" left me without love for this movie. I understand that she is playing a real person, Elizabeth Gilbert , who needs to travel in order to find herself after a divorce. However, Elizabeth was portrayed as a selfish, spoiled, and bored woman. She came across as a woman who is looking for the next big thing. Julia Roberts brought no depth to the part that she was playing. I expected more from Julia Roberts. In addition, it seemed that he talent was wasted in this true life biography picture. In short, she was decent in this film; but not great in the film.

In addition, the supporting cast left much to be desired. The only person that I enjoyed was Richard Jenkins. He played Richard who befriends Elizabeth in India. The story of the end of his marriage made me hold my breath. James Franco was plastic as her boyfriend, David. Moreover, Javier Bardem didn't excite me Elizabeth's love interest, Felipe. Yes, he has a nice accent; but he didn't make me fall in love with him. It seemed like he was relying on his sexiness, rather than his acting ability, to pull off this role. It didn't work.

"Eat, Pray, Love" takes place in Italy, India, and Bali. All three locations were breathtaking. I want to visit Italy to eat all the delicious food and look at the beautiful art that Italy has to offer. I loved that Elizabeth ate Italian food with reckless abandon. In fact, all the Italian food inspired me to eat pasta after the movie. However, Italy was the the high point of the movie. India was so drawn out that I didn't care what happened in Bali. Yes, I understand that the point of India was relaxation and meditation. However, India was too slow. The part focusing on India would have been better if it was cut in half. The scene in which Elizabeth is going crazy because she is trying to sit still for two hours sums up this movie. It was hard to sit still for this over two hour movie.

"Eat, Pray, Love" is the worst movie of the year because the cast was flat, it was too long, and the scenery did little to enrich the film. This movie came from a book. The book was a bit better. However, a movie based on it didn't have to be made. In short, this movie made me eat Italian food, pray that it would end, and I loved that it finally did end. I also pray that Julia Roberts next movie is better.
