Eat a Superfood at Every Meal for Better Health

Lisa Mason
Eat a superfood at every meal to help improve your overall health and well-being. Superfoods are those naturally packed with multiple nutrients to help improve your health. They also contain phytochemicals known for disease-fighting properties. With more nutrients and less calories than other foods, they're an excellent food source that can benefit everyone.

The great thing about superfoods is that you can find many of them in your local grocery store. This makes it easy and convenient to add them to your diet. Here are 10 examples of superfoods that you can add to your meals each day:

1. Broccoli

2. Sweet potatoes

3. Nuts

4. Grape tomatoes

5. Citrus fruits

6. Salmon

7. Brown rice

8. Beans

9. Berries

10. Bananas

You can eat some superfoods alone as a snack while others make a great addition to any dish. Here are three examples of how you can add a superfood at every meal to complete your diet:

Breakfast: Gingerbread Blueberry Pancakes

Mix 2 cups flour, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1-1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. dried ginger, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/4 tsp. cloves, 1/4 tsp. nutmeg and 1/2 tsp. salt together on waxed paper and put aside for later. Mix together 2 cups buttermilk, 2 Tbsp. brown sugar, 3 Tbsp. canola oil, 1/2 cup egg substitutes and 1/4 cup molasses in a bowl. Next, add in the ingredients from the waxed paper and fold in 2 cups of blueberries. Cook on a non-stick griddle over medium heat until golden brown. Flip over to brown top side, then serve hot. This recipe makes 4 to 6 servings.

Lunch: Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Place sweet potatoes in a pot of water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cook on medium for about 15 minutes. Drain the water and put potatoes in mixing bowl. Add sour cream, cinnamon, salt and butter, then mash together. Place into a serving bowl and top with walnuts and brown sugar.

Dinner: Broccoli au Gratin

Preheat oven to 375 and place cooking spray in a two-quart casserole dish. Boil broccoli and red peppers for 3 minutes, drain and return to pot. Place dry mustard and flour in saucepan and heat on medium while slowly pouring in milk and vegetable stock. Stir continuously for about 10 minutes until thick. Add in cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese, then heat until melted. Remove the mixture, pour over boiled broccoli, mix, and serve.

Adding superfoods to your diet is one of the best ways to improve your health naturally. However, it's important to know that you can't get all of the nutrients needed to live healthy from these foods, which is why adding a superfood at every meal is a good idea.
