Eat Your Way to Better Skin

You are what you eat. That phrase has been around for a long time and it's true to a certain extent. When you consume greasy or fatty foods, these can cause outbreaks of zits and other skin problems. With the right diet, you can have clear, healthy skin.

Eating a well-balanced diet is the best way to go. You should include lots of fresh fruit and vegetables for the best effects. The vitamins and minerals included in these help promote healthy skin. Avoid eating too many processed foods like white bread, bleached flour and the like, as these are not good for the skin.

Vitamins such as the entire Vitamin B complex are extremely useful if you want to have great skin. For example, Vitamin B2 can prevent liver spots since these tend to be caused by a deficiency in this particular vitamin. If you aren't getting enough B6, it could cause eczema. Making sure that your diet is full of vegetables that carry these vitamins is a great way to banish skin problems. Brewers yeast is a good source of Vitamin B and you can add it to other foods easily.

When planning your diet, don't leave out sources of protein to round it out. Fish is particularly good for the epidermis as it contains omega-3, an essential fatty acid that protects skin cells. This handy fatty acid can also be found in walnuts and flaxseed, if you aren't interested in eating fish. Otherwise, bring on the sushi!

Blueberries are very high in antioxidants which help protect skin from the ravishes of free radicals. In layman's terms, they keep you looking younger for a longer period of time. Who doesn't want that? Plus, blueberries are easy to eat. Toss some frozen ones into your hot oatmeal or fresh berries onto your cornflakes for a healthy skin boost.

Another very important part of a healthy skin diet is water. Stay away from colas, coffee and anything else with caffeine in it if you want your skin to glow. Instead, stick to plain water. There are a number of flavored waters on the market these days that are just as good at flushing out the system as regular water, so it is worth a try if you find yourself hard-pressed to drink the recommended 8 glasses per day.

Healthy skin can be as close as a few well-planned meals. If you have the patience to stick to eating good, healthy, vitamin-rich food, you should see a marked improvement in your skin quality very soon.
