Eating Better at Work

Ways to Improve Eating Habits While Working

Lyn Vaccaro

Sometimes, eating better at work seems virtually impossible. Between all of the birthdays, special occasions, holidays, and celebrations of successes, it seems the snacks and "not so good" food keeps a constant flow. Not to mention some of the other types of temptations that exist within the walls of our employment. I have found some easy ways to eat better at work with a few of these thoughts in mind. The following paragraphs explore a few of those.

Bring Food From Home

I find that bringing my own food from home motivates me to eat it so it isn't wasted or thrown out later. If you've made one of your favorite dinners the night before, that serves as increased motivation to bring some of it in during your next work day. Bringing along one of your favorite sandwiches with whole grain chips and fruit on the side will provide a healthy and satisfying way to eat lunch at work as well.

Avoid the Vending Machines

Nothing screams "unhealthy" more than food and snacks from a vending machine, not to mention the cost. You can avoid using these machines by bringing your own snacks from home. Popcorn from your own popper, or a serving of cheese and crackers with fruit is a great substitute for vending machine food.

Change Your Driving Route

If you find yourself tempted by some of the fast food restaurants on your way to and from work, or at lunchtime, choose another alternate driving route if possible. Avoiding the temptations of unhealthy food stops that fuel your cravings for more of the same just help to create a vicious circle that continues for an undetermined time assisting you with weight gain and general unhealthy habits.

Keep a Juicer at Work

If you have access to a juicer or plan to buy one, first, let me congratulate you on your effort to become healthier in an effective way through juicing, but let me also suggest that you keep it at work. Making quick easy juices full of good carbs that actually feed the body in an efficient way, is a great way to supplement your food intake at work for better general health. Take along some apples and carrots to run through your juicer, and you have a quick healthy snack, designed for your body.
