Eating Habits: Changing Them the Right Way

Living an unhealthy lifestyle often results in overweight, diabetes, high blood pressure, a high cholesterol level, heart diseases and others. Therefore, many people try to change their way of life which particularly involves their eating habits. Some wish to lose weight as quick as possible. So they reduce the quantity of food drastically without knowing anything about calories, vitamins and mineral nutrients the body needs to operate well. It's very important to be aware of the risks connected with just lowering the daily amount of food and following wrong advices or 'myths' about healthy eating. Some of these 'myth busters' are described below.

1. Low carb diets

Your body needs a certain amount of carbonates as well as vitamins and mineral substances. Carbohydrates are necessary for the muscles which store the energy the body requires to run without complication.

2. Calories - as few as possible

Besides carbs, vitamins and mineral substances your body also needs a minimum quantity of calories to stay healthy. Losing weight too fast is very risky for the entire organism. You should aim for about two to three pound of weight loss per week. If you lose too much weight too quick, you should eat a little more, mainly diverse fruits and vegetables to stay fit.

3. Exercising on an empty stomach

If you have a feeling of hunger and your stomach is rumbling, you should definitely listen to this signal from your body. If you ignore it, you drive your body to run without energy. In this case, you may take a -healthy!- snack such as a banana or an apple before exercising.

4. Skipping breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You need energy in form of food right from the beginning; without food you feel weak and hungry the entire day.

5. Building on energy bars or drinks

They are great as snacks from time to time. However, such products don't contain a sufficient quantity of substances, especially antioxidants the organism needs every day. A unilateral diet may cause deficiency signs of the body; a lack of antioxidants may result in various diseases, particularly cancer. A variety of vegetables and fruits are optimal to prevent diseases like cancer.

6. Leave out beverages

Active people need much fluid to replace vital nutrient salts and to detoxicate the body. You should often drink, especially water and tea (decaffeinated!), also sugar free juices and low fat milk, even if you are not thirsty. But leave out alcohol and sodas that contain sugar.

7. Eating what you want when you are very active

Exercising doesn't mean you may eat as much healthy food as you want. Everybody needs a certain quantity of nutrients, whether you exercise or not. Always prefer fruits, salads, vegetables, cereals and low fat milk products. These products are ideal for active people to stay healthy.

It's never easy to change your lifestyle, especially your eating habits. If you pursue your goal consequently to eat healthy, you will feel better and better. This is a very desirable goal and it will pay off in the end.
