Eating Out with Weight Watchers Points

How to Prepare Ahead of Time for Success

Are eating out and sticking to a healthy lifestyle mutually exclusive? Is it impossible to enjoy the great food options at some of America's most popular restaurants while still feeling good about sticking to your Weight Watchers Points allotment? Is McDonalds a distant memory doomed to stay in your past? Definitely not!

Next to the healthier lifestyle and increased energy, by far the best selling point of the Weight Watchers Points system is the absolute flexibility. Is there really anything you have to give up? No. Do you have to make changes? Sure. But you can still enjoy your favorite foods, evenings out with your family and lunch out with coworkers. It just takes a little time, a little research and a whole lot of flexibility.

One of the greatest tools for planning a meal out on Weight Watchers is the Weight Watchers online feature. Tracking your food in a computerized journal keeps track of everything you need. You can plan your next meal, your whole day or even your whole week in advance and adjust from there. And for eating out purposes? It's pure gold!

Say you want to eat at the aforementioned McDonalds. Simply enter "McDonald's" in the search and suddenly you'll find nearly every menu option with points right there. A Quarter Pounder with Cheese might seem obscene on a "diet", but that doesn't mean Weight Watchers doesn't list it. Because maybe it fits into how you want to use your points. Scroll through the choices, and plan from there. Prepare to be surprised at how many options you can fit into your meal. Salads, yogurt parfaits, chicken nuggets and even the vanilla ice cream cone are surprisingly low in points and other higher points items may work with the structure you have set up.

It isn't just the fast food empires that are available right there in your search. Table service chains like Famous Daves, Pizza Hut, and Applebees are all available for searching. Experiment with your favorites and see if they are listed. Scroll through and decide what works for your meal. Simple!

What if Weight Watchers doesn't have the restaurant of your choice listed? The Internet, in this case, is truly your best friend. Look up the location and take a peek at their menu. In the best case scenario, they will have nutritional information for their menu listed. If so, plug the numbers into the handy Points Values Calculator and check them out. If they don't have the nutritional information, you can still use the menu to decide ahead of time what your options are. Break the meals down into ingredients and look up the points values. If you find something you like, save it as a meal or a favorite. Next time it will be there for you automatically.

Walking into a restaurant unprepared can make it hard to stare at the menu and make a good choice. Taking just a little time before you go to familiarize yourself with your options makes eating out a joy. You can have delicious food and still feel good about staying within the parameters you have set for your healthy lifestyle. Just use the tools at your fingertips and never feel deprived again!
