Eating in New York: Sbarro Pizza

A Familiar Face in an Unfamiliar Place

Jesse Schmitt
Whenever we are somewhere new, we want to try as much as we can. However there are times when all the mere use choices can seem overwhelming, especially in a place like New York City. With all the yapping and all the yelping and all the pushing and all the insanity, ever getting anywhere in New York City can seem like a proposition that is just an exercise in futility.

However there are a number of businesses which many of us may be familiar with which can add a level of grounding amidst all the chaos. One of these businesses is actually a New York original, originally, with its first location opened up in Brooklyn in the 1950s and has since gone on to spawn something of its own little distinctive dynasty.

If you don't have a mall or shopping center anywhere near you than you may be unfamiliar with this brand and if you don't spend any time in your local mall or shopping center you may not know it either. For those of us who grew up working in the mall Sbarro pizza is a very well-known name. We could probably count on our fingers and toes and still have more counting the many times we went there for lunch or dinner when we were working an evening shift at the mall in high school. And oh what a feeling when we were finally able to send along somebody to go get our Sbarro pizza for us when we had achieved the rank of shift supervisor at the clothing boutique or record pit!

But all this is really not the issue as eating out in New York is what we are talking about. There are a number of Sbarro pizza restaurants still in the city and if you are walking around in Manhattan and you want to go to Sbarro pizza restaurant you should have absolutely no problem getting a decent product. Sbarro pizza has been around for quite some time and theirs is a formula that still works quite well.

With more than nine locations in Manhattan, Sbarro pizza is still serving up some of the most consistently good, well made pizza around. And whether you want thin crust pizza, deep dish pizza, stuffed pizza, or any of the other Italian specialties, you can count on Sbarro's to deliver a consistently good product time and time again.

One of my personal favorites growing up was their buffet service as I felt like you got so much food for such a relative value. While my appetite may not be as big as it used to be, I recently was still able to enjoy a hearty lunch with many of my favorite foods sprinkled all over at their buffet. You need to check with your individual Sbarro's as the buffet is not at every locaion. I had been then again and I had some of their stuffed pizza in which I didn't really remember from my mall days, but in the event you are ever in a Sbarro's pizza, the spinach, broccoli and cheese stuffed pizza was outta sight!

With a full host of Italian entrées and many other things to choose from including heroes, salads, and of course their famous pizza, Sbarro's continues to cater to their clientele and is a safe and easy bet in any of the crazy neighborhoods of New York City.
