Ebay - All You Need to Know About Searching for an Item
From Basic Searching to Advanced Searching, Learn it All Here!
Searching for an item on Ebay is fairly simple for someone who has been doing for it for a while. But for the new Ebay member, it might seem like a task. The following tips and advice will help you search for an item on Ebay with ease.
First, be sure you are at Ebay's official web page and log in with your user name and password. You can also search without becoming a member, or without signing in. But you will not be able to place a bid on an item, once you find what you are looking for, without being an Ebay member.
Once you are logged in, you are ready to start your search. If you are logged in correctly, you will see a search engine at the right hand corner of the page. One search option is you can enter the name of the item you are searching for here. Using this search engine, you will get a list of categories where your search item is being sold. Browse the different categories by clicking the blue links.
There is another search engine you can use that will narrow your search. After you log in, you will also see a search engine on the right hand side of the web page. Enter the name of the item you want to search for here, then use the drop menu to select a specific category. Now you can view all the items that match your request in that category.
Using Advanced Search Features
When searching for an item on Ebay, you have the option of using the Advanced Search Feature. This is very helpful if you know the specific item you are searching for, of if you want to narrow your search results.
After you log into Ebay with your user name and password, you will be looking at the official home page. Underneath the search engine, at the top right hand corner of the page, you will see a link that says "Advanced Search". You will need to click this link.
Now you will be on the "Advanced Search" page. If you know the item number of the item you are searching for, put it in the appropriate place. If you do know the specific item number, enter a keyword or keywords, that are appropriate to the item you are searching for.
Next choose a category you'd like to search in. If you would like to search in all categories, that option is also available.
Next you need to decide if you want the advanced search engine to search for your keywords in the titles and descriptions, or if you would rather view a list with the keywords in the titles only. Click the appropriate box.
Then you need to pick how you prefer the results to be listed. You will have the option to sort the results by when they will end, by their price, and by which payment methods the seller will accept. You can also choose to only view items with pictures, and how many search results you would like to view per page.
