eBay's Instant Sale Program for Outdated Electronic Devices

It doesn't take long for that new electronic device you just bought to become outdated. Every time you turn around it seems that a new operating system is developed, a faster processor, or a whole new technology comes along that basically changes everything. You really want that new technology, but what do you do with that outdated electronic device. It seems a shame to just let it sit around collecting dust. Take a look at eBay's instant sale program.

Think about how in just the past few years that most people had not heard of an eReader, or a tablet. If you're paying attention to technology news, it's amazing to see that in just a short span of time digital books have become more popular than conventional paper books. The market is getting flooded with new tablets. Almost daily, there is an announcement of a new tablet device that is being released. By the way, that Nook you purchased six months ago is already outdated, and wouldn't you just love to get your hands on the newest model.

EBay's instant sale program only offers $36.00 for the old Nook Wi-Fi. In this case you're better off trying to sell it yourself. They do, however, offer up to $150 for a damaged iPad. Don't think that just because a device is damaged that it doesn't have value.

Other companies have buyback programs as well, or you can choose to sell your item. If you decide to sell it, you can list it on eBay or Craigs List. That is if you know how to use those services. Should you sell your device or give it away? Oh decisions, decisions it's enough to make your head spin. The best thing to do is research where you can get the best price.

Most sites that buy used electronics have online processing. EBay's site, for instance, allows you to enter the information about your device and then will give you an instant quote. The quote actually comes from a reseller. What happens then is that you print out a free shipping label and send your item in for a final valuation. It could be higher or lower than the online quote. Once you receive the final quote you have up to five days to think about it. If you refuse the quote, the item will be shipped back to you free of charge.

If your electronic device is deemed to be of no value, you have the option of letting eBay keep the item and recycle it. Personally I would rather try my luck reselling the item on eBay, but many people just don't know how to use the online auction site.

CNET did an evaluation of the different sites that buy electronics, and they found, that of all the ways you can garner a little cash back, eBay's instant sale program came out as one where you could get the most cash back. The article did mention that you need to keep your device in pristine condition. Think about that when you purchase a new device, it wouldn't hurt to keep the original box and manuals somewhere in a safe place in case you want to sell it someday. You'll get a better price.

Don't leave that old device lying around, too long. The longer it sits the less money you will get out of it. In fact, Barnes and Noble announced this week that they were coming out with the Nook Simple Touch Reader. Making the value of the old Wi-Fi Nook drop pretty drastically. Another good way to get rid of those old electronic devices, is to give it to a school or church. At the very least it can be a tax write off.

Interesting - Best Buys is doing a similar thing. There are products that are outdated before they even hit the market! cheers ;)
