Ebb and Flow

Happiness is Not a Permanent State

M.S.Medina
I awoke today with tears in my eyes.
I wanted to stay in bed.
My spirit felt crushed, my heart felt cold.
I wondered if I were better off dead.

Life can wear you down if you let it.
The dreams sometimes don't come true.
You struggle and work and try in vain,
but the rewards sometimes seem few.

I sat in silence all alone,
my sobs, my body shook.
I tried to see that there still was good,
My spirit sagged, all my strength it took.

Happiness is not a permanent state
in which we may choose to reside.
but a series of times that ebb and flow,
and fill you up inside.

So the next time that sadness fill your soul,
and you don't know what to do.
Remember that happiness comes and goes,
and it will return back to you.
