Ecards Help You Faithfully Celebrate Easter

Joshua Mattern
One of the most important holidays for Christians all around the world is Easter. Christmas, as most everyone is well aware, is celebrated by Christians as the birth of Jesus Christ, who is said to be the savior of mankind. But Easter commemorates a much different affair: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christians, of course, believe that after Jesus died he lay dead for a period of three days, before rising from the grave and joining God in Heaven. For many Christians, Easter is, in fact, the most important holiday of the year, as it represents the fulfilling of their greatest prophecy: that the son of God will rise from the dead, and return to Earth to save mankind.

Like all religious holidays, though, Easter has grown from it pious roots to become an all-out celebration. Parts of this growth are great things: traditions of getting together with family, and having Easter Egg hunts come to mind; but the commercialism that runs rampant through all holidays has us in real danger of losing sight of the true meaning of Easter.

If you want to do your part to go back to the more sacred roots of Easter, while still retaining its celebratory aspects, then there are a few things you can try. Rather than getting your children huge baskets of candy, let them share in the cooking of the holiday meal. And instead of sending everyone you know store-bought Easter cards, try sending free Easter ecards.

Free ecards are useful for any holiday or special occasion, as a way of making your sentiments known to those you care about, without contributing to the overt consumerism rampant in contemporary holiday celebration. Since you don't spend any money on them, your gift is able to stand on its own two feet as a symbol of your love and care. And on the more practical side, ecards travel through email, eliminating the need for postage, addressing all those envelopes, and crossing your fingers as you hope your card arrived on time.

And even if ecards travel too far away from the traditional for your tastes, you can make your own free printable Easter cards. As with ecards, printable cards allow you a number of different, creative designs. The difference, of course, is that you can print printable cards on your own home computer and printer, and have something tangible to give to your loved ones.

Whichever option you choose-ecards or printable cards-and however you choose to celebrate Easter (or any holiday) as a whole, just remember that regardless of the holiday or special occasion, our love of family and friends is always the true reason for the season.
