Eclipse Energy-Saving, Noise-Reducing, Blackout Curtain Cools Down My Florida Home
The Heat Upstairs was Unbearable
Living in Florida the summers are hot. Living in a two story townhouse, the upstairs can be ten degrees hotter than downstairs. We desperately needed more than vertical blinds to stop the heat from coming in.
We found Eclipse Thermaback Curtains in Wal-Mart. They had various sizes, and colors. We needed the 42 inch x 84 inch long for our windows.
We had looked at many drapes, and they were just too thin. We then saw the Eclipse Energy-saving, Noise-reducing, Blackout curtains, and said, "They are just what we are looking for". We have peach walls in the front bedroom, and black furniture. I picked up the black curtains, with gold and silver circles, for the pattern.
It states on the packaging that they "Save on home heating and cooling costs. Windows account for about 33% of home energy loss."
I was delighted about this. Our downstairs rooms could be 75 degrees, and upstairs it would be 85 degrees. It was like living in two different countries.
We bought a Cafe Drapery Rod from Sears, which was 48 inches x 86 inches. It was a dark brown with a tarnished gold looking knob as each end. These ends matched up perfectly with the gold in the curtain, and also the tarnished looking gold rings, at the top of the curtains.
Len put the rod up above the blinds, and allowed for the 84 inch length of the curtains. Once done we opened up the curtains, slid the rod through the two sets of curtains rings, and put it on the brackets.
It was perfect. It went completely over the blinds, and covered the windows, with extra curtain at both sides. We also had a good lap over in the middle.
We have had the curtains up for almost two weeks now. Not only is the bedroom cool during the day, but as it blocks out 99% of light, we are sleeping better, and longer. We don't wake up as it gets light anymore. It is funny, as I have to look at the clock, to see if it is daylight.
More features of the Eclipse Thermaback Curtains, from their website:
"Experience the darkness, silence and beauty of eclipse curtains.Expect more than beauty from your curtains -- look at how much more you get from eclipse.
Unlike ordinary curtains, eclipse curtains:
Block 99% of light
Save up to 25% on home heating and cooling costs
Reduce noise by up to 40%
Increase quality of sleep
Reduce stress levels"
We keep the upstairs front blinds closed all the time, because it gets too hot all year round in Florida. We do open the back blinds as soon as the sun is up enough. Then we open the side ones during the afternoon. The front is where the sun is at it's hottest, and so these Classic thermal coated curtains will remain closed. No one from the outside will see the back of the curtains. They will see the closed blinds.
If you live up north they suggest that you: "Keep the Eclipse thermal curtains closed whenever there is no direct sunlight entering the room. Then open them up when the direct sunlight could enter the room."
These curtains are really beautiful, and make our bedroom look elegant. We paid $29.99 for each of the two panels. These will more than pay for themselves with the savings on our electricity bills.
If you are thinking about buying drapes/curtains, why not take a look at the Eclipse energy-saving, noise-reducing, blackout curtains. We are so pleased that we did.
