Eclipse Movie Trailer Precedes New Moon DVD Release

Just in time for the DVD release of New Moon on March 20, the official trailer for Eclipse - the third installment in the Twilight Saga movies - hit the Internet. See the Eclipse trailer here.

Eclipse will hit movie theaters on June 30, a mere seven months after New Moon was released.

Eclipse is the third in the series and presents a choice to main character Bella Swan: To choose the death of her humanity in pursuit of her vampire love Edward, or live a somewhat normal life with Jacob, the young werewolf who loves her.

In Eclipse, Bella is torn between two loves and two worlds. This is a prominent part of the emotional aspect of the story but the action centers around a coming war between vampires. In Eclipse, the vampire Victoria is bent upon revenge against Bella and Edward - the two she blames for taking her mate James from her. In the original Twilight, James hunted Bella down and met his demise at the hands of the Cullen family.

Victoria wants revenge against the Cullens and most specifically against Edward. Her idea of revenge is to take Edward's love - Bella - away from him. Victoria enlists an army of young vampires - those she has turned and who are driven by an insatiable hunger. These newly-turned vampires are especially strong and difficult to fight.

In order to protect not only Bella, but the whole town of Forks, the Cullen vampires enlist the help of the werewolf pack, which includes Jacob. Jacob struggles with his love for Bella and Bella is confused by her feelings for Jacob as she has an obsessive love for Edward.

I liked the book Eclipse much better than New Moon, but I found myself especially frustrated with Bella. She was unable to let go of Jacob even though she declared over and over that she could not love him romantically and she knew he wanted that type of relationship with her. In the real world, Bella would be accused of leading him on and being a tease. In real life, she should have cut all ties instead of giving Jacob false hope.

Eclipse gives teeth (no pun intended) to the love triangle and explores the issues of mortality, family, love and friendship. Thankfully, the issues are resolved so fans can move on to Breaking Dawn where more complex issues arise and the saga is finally over!

Personally, I would like to see the movie Eclipse present Edward or Jacob telling Bella to make up her darn mind and quit playing with them. One can only wish.
