Eclipta Alba(Bhringaraj)-An Excellent Ayurvedic Herb for Your Liver!!!!

Bhringaraja( Eclipta Alba) has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicines for ages, mainly for treatment of Liver Cirrhosis. It is believed to prevent aging, maintain and rejuvenate hair, teeth, bones, memory, sight, and hearing. It is a rejuvenative tonic for brain, kidney sand liver. When used in oil, it removes graying, balding, makes the hair darker, and promotes hair growth. It helps calm the mind from excessive activity and promotes sound sleep.The tops of the plant are used for skin diseases (inflammation). The root powder of plant is also used in Ayurveda for hepatitis, enlarged spleen and skin disorders. Bhringaraj contains wedelolactone and de methyl wedelolactone, which exhibits anti-hepato toxic properties - i.e. it helps in eliminating the toxins from the liver. Because of its hepato-protective properties, juice of the leaves is used in the treatment of liver cirrhosis, hepatitis and infective hepatitis. It is also used for liver enlargement, jaundice and other ailments of the liver and gall bladder. It has also shown excellent antifungal and antiviral activity.

Medical properties: The root is alternative, aphrodisiac, refrigerant, diuretic, and tonic.

Medicinal uses:

The fresh juice of the leaves is given in the treatment of edema, fevers, liver disorders, and rheumatic joint pains; it is also used to improve the appetite and to stimulate digestion. The juice is given with honey to treat upper respiratory congestion in children. It is popularly used to enhance the memory and has a reputation as an anti-aging agent in Ayurveda. The leaf juice is also effective when applied externally to treat minor cuts, abrasions, and burns .Plant is rubbed on the gums in toothache and applied with a little oil for headaches.Mixed with salt, it relieves burning urine. Bhringraj is used in Ayurvedic treatment for the prevention of repeated miscarriage and abortion. It is also used to relieve post delivery uterine pain. The decoction prepared from the leaves of this herb is used to reduce uterine bleeding. The extract obtained from the leaves of this plant is mixed with honey and given to infants for expulsion of worms.

A mixture of Bhringaraja and coconut oil keeps the hair dark and lustrous; when applied to the scalp it promotes hair growth.Bhringaraj is used along with other herbs such as amla, shikakai as a hair rinse and conditioner. It is also used with oils such as coconut oil and sesame oil for the preparation of hair oils for conditioning.
