The biggest trend on the market today are eco friendly products and all natural this and that. The concern over the environment and our health is well justified, but it shouldn't have to empty your wallet for you to do your part. As with any industry there are those that will seek to make a profit by telling you that their product must be purchased. There are some great products out on the market, but there are also more inexpensive everyday products you could be using.
To maintain a green way of living and save money, look at purchases and how they impact the environment. Lets take potatoes for example. You can purchase them in a box as instant, potatoes in a can, or purchase them by the bag. First if you don't like instant potatoes you shouldn't purchase them just because they come in a biodegradable box. Why purchase an item that is not going to be used. If you prefer real whole potatoes in a bag, buy them and plan on recycling your plastics. Or you may like canned potatoes, in which case you can either recycle the can or find other uses for the empty can. The idea is how you can produce less environmental impact while still eating what you like.
Cleaning products have become big sellers for eco-friendly companies. While some of these are great there are many less expensive things you can do. A floor wash can be made with the use of natural herbs, white distilled vinegar, and warm water. This type of wash will not only clean the floor but also take odors out of the air. With a little research, and some trial and error, you can find a mix that works for you. Using regular baking soda on your carpets as a deodorizer is a lot less expensive than most eco-friendly products and work just as well without added fragrances.
So you see there are simple inexpensive ways to not only look out for the environment but also save you money in the process. The idea of living green is about being environmentally conscious while saving money on things that are unnecessary. Living green is not about a status symbol, it's about simple living.
