So, whether you just want natural ways to unclog your drain, safe ways to unclog your drain, biodegradable ways to unclog your drain, or Go Green ways to unclog your drains, I think you will like what you read!
The first tip I can give you to unclog your drain in a safe way that fits the Go Green life style is to prevent a clog in your drain with boiling water. I am starting with prevention first, but do not worry, there will be some tips for unclogging an already clogged drain in a moment.
Once a week take a pot of boiling water and flush your drains. I recommend sing a tea pot for this chemical free way to prevent drain clogs. Less chance of a burn. This simple Go Green step takes only a few minutes of your life and will save your money, not introduce harmful chemicals into the earth's atmosphere, and keep your drain from clogging as often.
Now, if you drain is already clogged, then try a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to unclog it in a Go Green way. Both vinegar and baking soda are biodegradable and friendly to the earth's atmosphere.
To unclog your drain in this biodegradable way all you need to do is sprinkle about ΒΌ cup of baking soda into the offending drain. Pour in one cup of vinegar. Let this sit and work for about 15 minutes.
Now, flush the clogged drain with boiling water.
Repeat this step as needed.
To prevent clogged drains try investing in one of those little metal hair catchers that slip into your bathtub drain. They cost about $1.50 and can be bought at the grocery store, the drug store, the home improvement store, and even at mega shopping stores! They do not harm the earth and are so affordable.
Finally, if all else fails you can try using a plunger. This will introduce no harmful chemicals into your home. There are a few tricks to using a plunger to unclog a drain though.
First, you need to close of any other openings in the sink or bathtub; this means any other drains or openings. These will keep you from getting the suction you need to unclog the drain.
Now, the section tip is to buy and force cup plunger if you are purchasing a new plunger. They are easier to use and will garner better results. Place your plunger over the drain and compress the air out by pushing towards the hole.
Now, pull back hard and swift. The pull bag action is where you should be strong to pull the clog out and not press it further in. The pull bag motion is what will actually unclog the drain.
Once you have loosened the clog, turn on the hot water to wash the clog down the drain.
Repeat this Go Green method of unclogging your drain as often as needed!

Post a CommentThe best "green" way to unclog a drain it to manually remove it. I have used the hot water trick and "magic" mixes, but the best way is to just clear it with a snake. I use a small piece of hanger wire that I bend a hook in on the end with a pliers. Be persistant, and pull out the hair. I have not tried those new plastic snakes and they look promising.
Thanks, this worked great to unclog my drain. It was green and I didn't have to ask my short tempered landlord:D
Thanks again!
