1.) Reclaimed Fabrics
Nixie Clothing
Did you know that an enormous amount of the landfills in the country are full of clothes that are thrown away? I am not saying to dig in landfills or trash bags. I am, however, suggesting you look for clothing that was made from previously used fabrics.
From the Nixie website:
"In the UK alone 900 000 tonnes of textiles are thrown into landfills each year.
If everyone in the UK bought one reclaimed woolen garment each year it would save an average of 37 million gallons of water and 480 tones of chemical dye."
That, to me, is unreal. That is only in the United Kingdom! Imagine what it is in the United States!
2.) Organic Fabrics
Garden Kids Clothing (I recommend!)
Organic fabrics are another way to keep your clothes Eco-friendly. Cotton producers are the second largest users of pesticides in the U.S. Only second to corn. At least 4 of the 9 pesticides used are known to be carcinogenic. That means they contain cyanide, dicofol, naled, and propargite. Crop dusted plants generally only absorb 25% of the pesticide. The rest is sent up to miles away into rivers, streams, and backyard home wells. That could be your drinking water! Organic cotton is grown on land that is certified to be free from pesticides, insecticides, and/or defoliants for at least three years. I once read that, "you should never put anything on your skin that you would not put in your mouth," with all of these facts about toxic chemicals, I can definitely see where this comes from.
3.) Kids FRUGI For Girls
FRUGI Website
Frugi has a wonderful line of organic clothing for girls from age 2 to age 6! I have browsed extensively through their items and have, so far, been very very impressed. I never would have thought that Earth friendly clothes could be so fashionable. I guess we all picture a burlap sack when we think Earthy? Stereotypes be damned! The outfits and accessories that Frugi has for you are wonderful!
4.) Verdessence Baby
Verdessence Baby
If you have a new born baby girl check out Verdessence Baby's line of organic baby clothes. They have two pages of outfits for her, and quite a few toys! While your there, do some shopping for yourself. They have a wonderful and plentiful line of organic clothes for women as well.
5.) Panties/Briefs
This may not be at the top of your list of things to think about being organic, but it should be. Here is my top recommended website for organic panties/briefs for girls. Perhaps it is just me, but I do not want clothing that contains any kind of chemical whatsoever near my daughters most sensitive areas. Check these out because in the end, you can never be to safe!
