There is a wide variety of eco friendly mulches available, some made from natural growing plants and some from some more unusual sources, items that would have ended up in a landfill an been of no use at all. These eco friendly mulches are available all over and many manufacturers have similar products. Mulch is an important part of a modern eco friendly garden. Take some time and shop around till you find the one that helps make your garden work and look the way you want it to.
Rubber mulch is made from recycled tires, but it does not look anything like where it came from. There are several features that make rubber a top contender for an eco friendly mulch. The first is that is a recycled product, keep a non biodegradable product out of the land fills. It is also non toxic, will not attract insects and other pests like wood does and will not blow away in the wind.
FloriMulch . In most cases, mulch made from trees is not considered to be eco friendly. FloriMulch is the exception. It is made from melaleuca, a tree that grows in the Florida Everglades, but is considered to be invasive. Removing them actually helps the environment. Synthetic Pine Straw is made from recycled plastic, is clean, hypoallergenic, will not absorb moisture, resists termites and other insects and comes with a 5 year warrantee.
Organic Paper Rhimax is 100% recycled organic paper that is biodegradable. It keep moisture in, controls the temperature of the soil and reduces erosion. When you want to re plant the area, just blend it back into the soil.
Coconut Husk is all natural, combats drought situations, has a nice aroma and will not develop mildew or attract any bugs.
Pine Bark Mulch is 100% organic. Make a 2 to 3 inch deep cover and it will prevent the roots from freeze damage and keeps the soil moist. It also does not decay at a fast rate.
