Eco-Friendly, Green Living Through Growing Your Own Fruits, Vegetables and Herbs
Improve the Health of Your Family and the Environment Through Gardening Your Way to Green Living
Enhancing your green living lifestyle through earth friendly organic gardening is also the best way to ensure that you and your family are consuming healthy fruits, vegetables and herbs that provide high quality nutrition without chemicals, additives or genetic modification. When you grow your own produce you are in control of the fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and growing aids that are used in your organic garden.
Improve your green living garden by avoiding toxic weed killers and pesticides and opting for all natural alternatives that will not harm the soil, animals or your family. For example, undertaking regular weeding and using natural or reclaimed ground covers between your food plants will limit weeds without the need for chemical-laden weed killers. If DIY earth friendly weed prevention methods - such as newspaper or fabric to use as ground covering, or distilled white vinegar sprayed on pathways - isn't doing the job, you can still practice earth friendly gardening with store-bought weed prevention products now that there are a number or natural, organic options readily available.
Not everyone has an expansive backyard with a large area to dedicate to organic gardening. If space is an issue at your house or apartment, keep in mind that even if you only grow your own herbs, a single fruit tree or a few small vegetable plants, you can still reduce your reliance on store-bought produce and limit your impact on the environment. Every step in the right direction will improve the health of your family and the environment, no matter how small that step might be.
For folks who are trying to increase their earth friendly green living in a limited living area, keep in mind that herbs can be grown on a windowsill, tomato and green or red pepper plants can thrive in a container on a balcony or patio, and hanging containers are a great way to grow smaller vegetable and fruit plants or herbs without taking up any floor space.
