Eco-friendly and Green Ways to Present Children's Gifts Without Wrapping Paper

Sonya Covert
Wrapping paper may be pretty but it is expensive and not very green or eco-friendly. There are so many creative ways to "wrap" a gift without using paper that will sit in a landfill. Not only are paper-free wrapping alternatives for gifts eco-friendly and green; they are fun and more useful. Try these green wrappings on for size.

Green & Eco-friendly Wrapping Alternatives for Baby Gifts:

Small baby gifts can be wrapped in a baby blanket and tied with ribbon, cording or another baby gift (like mittens on a string) making it both Eco-friendly and creative.

A gift outfit can be put on a hanger and stuffed with other baby gifts such as socks, blankets, towels, washcloths and diapers. Just carry the outfit to the party on a hanger, stuffed with goodies. Tie off the ankles to hold in the gifts. It is easy to turn a gift that usually needs a box and wrapping paper into a green, Eco-friendly gift. The other party guests will ask all about your uniquely wrapped gift and you can share your thoughts on making things more green and Eco-friendly.

Buy a diaper bag as a gift and fill it with baby items needed in a diaper bag. The ideas are endless but a few are.......wipes, diapers (cloth is more green and Eco-friendly), nail clippers, children's Tylenol, diaper rash ointment, bibs etc.

Make a Eco-friendly, green baby first aid kit in a rubber maid type container. Choose products that are best for the environment. You might even want to decorate the outside of the container with sticker letters or with other embellishments. The container will be used and won't be thrown away like a disposable box would have been.

A baby hamper is a great gift. Fill it with baby laundry essentials, tie on a bow, and then there is no need for wrapping paper. You can even add a bottle of your favorite green, Eco-friendly detergent to the gift.

Save money and the earth by buying a baby bath tub and filling it with bath products like towels, wash cloths, soap, shampoo, a rubber ducky and baby lotion instead of wrapping with paper.

Green & Eco-friendly Wrapping Alternatives for Children's Birthday Gifts:

More Eco-friendly and green than using a paper gift bag, buy a dump truck filling the back with small toys such as cars, treats, clothing or anything that would fit. Carry or roll the truck into the party.

Instead of using one of those huge plastic gift bags, go a Eco-friendly and green route and buy a used toy chest (easy to buy used without being noticeably used) and put another gift inside.

Buy a sand box used (very cheap usually) and fill it with sand toys of every kind eliminating any paper wrapping.

Buy a used ride-on like a scooter, bike or riding car and add a helmet and pads to the handle bars with a bow eliminating all paper. Be sure and mention why you didn't wrap your gifts so that others will understand your desires to be Eco-friendly and green.

Another Eco-friendly and green wrapping idea is to wrap any toy in a character sheet.

Wrap a toy in a character pillow case and tie shut with cording or ribbon.

A sport's lover can be gifted a nice sports bag filled with a ball, pads and any equipment for their favorite sport. Every part of the gift is contained within the bag.

One of my favorite ways to wrap children's gifts in a Eco-friendly, green way is to put all the gift contents in a child's size back pack. Kids love back packs. They are useful, practical and fun.

Wrap a slew of art supplies up in a child's size apron, tying the strings in a bow for a packaged look.

We all have to purchase gifts for babies and children. Now, we can purchase these gifts having the desire to wrap them in a Eco-friendly and green way. Consider how you will do this as you shop. Not only are these ideas so much more fun, creative, Eco-friendly and practical, they avoid all the packaging that comes with toy sets. The packaging is wasteful and sits in landfills. Who would miss spending an hour after their child's party twisting and pulling those toys out of the complex packaging? Not me. Good luck being green!

Great suggestions. Having three kids, we get TONS of gifts in gift bags. I save them and have ended up with quite a large collection to choose from when it comes time to "wrap" something.

Great ideas. We recycle the Sunday color comics as wrapping paper for kids' gifts. Then it goes to the recycling center (the paper, not the gift!)

I especially like the tip about a baby laundry hamper and eco detergent, that is certainly something a new mom will use!
