Eco-friendly Plants for Home Decor

Paul
When most people think of home decorating they think of candles and light fixtures and feng shui, and all the normal stuff which tends to be on TLC home repair shows. When I think of decorating any home I always think of bringing life into the home. After all what is a home if there is no life? Nothing living in it? This article is a summary of my suggestions for creating functional and living designs which will benefit you and your family and amaze your guests.

Spider Plants

Spider plants are notorious house plants, mainly because they are fairly hearty and resistant to neglect. So for some one who is not used to caring for plants, spider plants are the way to go. Try doing a multiple level stand of three or four spider plants, use pots which go along with your home's decor and put a little bit of care into buying nice colorful pots which will add as much to a room as your plants do. The main benefit of the spider plant besides it's color and green beauty, is that they have been shown to reduce indoor air pollutions such as radon. In this aspect spider plants can benefit your health while being pleasing to the eye. Spider plants need little sunlight but work best in entry ways or rooms with large windows, because even though they do not need a great deal, they do need some light. To buy pots online try "the pottery patch". For purchasing your spider plants look online at dealtime.

Herbal garden in the kitchen

Nothing brightens up a kitchen window box like Rosemary, thyme, basil and oregano. Placing a box of herb plants in your kitchen window is one of the best ways to bring life into the most important part of the house. This will allow for you to grow your own fresh herbs and snip them off when you need them for cooking, rather than just having an unsightly rack of bottled herbs, you can have a beautiful garden. Many companies have begun packaging standard herb gardens and while these are useful, they do not always add the decorative flair that a homemade and custom built box can add. Catnip

Adding a catnip plant to your living room can be the perfect addition to please both your cat and entertain your family. A catnip plant should be elevated away from where cats can reach it, perhaps in a window frame or on a pedestal, I know it is difficult to keep anything away from a cat, but this will merely serve so that the catnip is allowed to grow to proper lengths and also serves its sightly value rather than it's mere entertainment value when your cat consumes the smell. Catnip is not harmful to cats but merely spurs a reaction from them and after a few minutes of entertaining behavior most cats will acclimate to the scent and it will take a few hours before they can or will be affected by it again. Overall the concept I run with when decorating is adding life to a room or house. You may do so by incorporating the different elements of water(water elements and fountains), fire (candles and fire pits), earth (plants), and wind (soft gentle colors and free flowing forms). So please do not buy simple items from your local decor store and simple sit them out on your tables and counter tops, use items which will serve multiple functions such as the plants listed above.
