Eco-Friendly Wedding Ideas

With wedding season in full swing, eco-friendly wedding tips may be just what you're looking for. Weddings can be expensive, labor-intensive, and completely harmful to the environment. The biggest day in your life can also create the most abundant harmful byproducts. When thinking about your wedding, it would be a very wise decision to at least add one eco-friendly aspect to your big day. Here are a few ideas to keep in mind as you plan that special day with your true love.

Eco-Friendly Wedding Idea #1: Pick out eco-friendly wedding bands.

Brilliant Earth is a San Francisco based company that provides eco-friendly wedding bands and engagement bands. They offer conflict-free Canadian diamonds, fair trade gemstones, and environmentally conscious and recycled gold and platinum to suit your needs. On top of being environmentally responsible, Brilliant Earth donates 5% of all its profits to help African communities that are harmed by the production of diamonds. Brilliant Earth promotes quality, change, and growth in the diamond industry. This is a great way to create a positive impact on the environment and make your special day even better.

Eco-Friendly Wedding Idea #2: Donate your leftover food.

Weddings tend to over-accommodate guest attendance to prepare for the worst. While this may seem like a great idea to ensure that your wedding day runs smoothly, you also end up with a great deal of leftover food. Usually this food either gets thrown away or goes bad before it all can be consumed. This waste simply accumulates in the environment creating an even greater overall waste that our world must cope with. A great way to solve this issue is to donate your leftovers to a homeless shelter or other needing organization immediately after your wedding reception. This minimizes the waste produced from your wedding and also minimizes the harm done on the environment.

Eco-Friendly Wedding Idea #3: Think of your guests first.

This may seem like a silly thinr to think about when planning your wedding. On one hand, it is your big day, and you should have your dream wedding. On the other hand, of course you are thinking of your guests. You will be picking out food that your guests will enjoy and a seating arrangement to accommodate for all your guests. However, this idea has a different meaning. Don't make your guest drive more than necessary. Have your wedding ceremony at the same site or within walking distance to your reception area. Not only will they be grateful, but you will also be reducing the pollution produced as a result of your wedding. Another way to think of your guests is to register for only what you absolutely need. This allows no excess gifts, and ultimately waste, that you truly do not need. There are also several registry options for your guests to give a donation as a wedding gift.

These ideas are great ways to get you thinking about different ways to conserve the environment and minimize waste on your wedding day.

I like all these ideas. We are going to a wedding on Saturday and I am very curious what the young people are planning. I will report back on my experience. I hope this couple made some good choices.

Great ideas. I used my leftover wedding food to feed the guests the next day at our present-opening get-together with immediate family. It didn't go to waste and it was still yummy! I also registered with Ten Thousand Villages, a fair trade store with lots of really nice hand-made artisan goods. Unfortunately, Wal-mart had a lot more "useful" things that were cheaper, and it was closer and more familiar to guests, so I only got one thing from TTV.
