Econolodge in Hot Springs, Arkansas: A Review

Sheila Chase
Are you headed toward the mega-fun town of Hot Springs, Arkansas? If so, you'll need some lodging because Hot Springs, Arkansas holds lots of activities for even the pickiest of people. This means that you're going to want to stay more than one night. Though you won't be in your hotel room much, you still want a clean, comfortable place to lay your head, right? Well, if you normally stay at Econolodge and want to know how the Econolodge location in Hot Springs, Arkansas measures up, here's some information.

Location. The Econolodge in Hot Springs, Arkansas is located at 4319 Central Avenue, and this is a premium location for tourists because it's just off of Highway 70, which takes you around to Magic Springs, the theme park located in Hot Springs. Too, just a short drive straight down the road is Oaklawn the horse races that Hot Springs caters to. Further on down, you'll find the historic district, which includes bath houses, shopping, and site seeing.

Just around the corner from this historic district, you can drive up the mountains and hike. Too, the hotel is within walking distance of several restaurants, so you don't have to drive. The one negative thing about this location is that you'll get stalled in traffic when trying to pass through the Oaklawn visitors, so if you plan on going to the historic district, you might want to choose a hotel on the other side of Oaklawn. You can still get to Magic Springs easily.

Pet deposit. The pet deposit for this location comes in the form of having to pay ten dollars more per night for your room, and you don't get this money back. Still, if you're a pet owner, you'll likely agree that this is not an unreasonable charge. The bad news is that the place is really not pet friendly, at least in its surroundings. Almost no grass or ground exists for you to take your pet to potty, and glass covers much of the ground that does exist. The grounds are certainly not well kept.

Access to rooms. The Econolodge in Hot Springs does offer outside access to rooms, which is a plus. If you want a non-smoking room, though, be prepared to stay on the second floor. They do have vending machines on the second floor, but they are not well stocked. Too, don't be surprised if you find a gallon of oil or other things lying around on the stairwells. In short, you have to keep your pet close by you to make sure that your pet doesn't consume something that shouldn't be left lying out in the first place.

Continental Breakfast. This Econolodge does offer a continental breakfast, but it's a lower-end one. You get hot coffee and juice, but the bread products that they serve are less than fresh. You can expect your standard mini muffins, toast, and bagels. They do sometimes put out fresh fruit, too. This continental breakfast is a help-yourself breakfast, and they provide little room for dining. Even so, this continental breakfast works when you're in a pinch. Load up on the coffee because they offer none for the room.

Amenities. The amenities at the Econolodge in Hot Springs, Arkansas are the most basic you can get. They do provide soap and shampoo, but this is it. You get no iron, no hair dryer, and no coffee maker. They do claim to have Internet, but you have to go down to the office and get a box to hook up in your room, which is not worth the trouble unless you just have to have the Internet for a specific purpose. They do have cable television for their occupants.

Cleanliness. You can find pictures of the Hot Springs, Arkansas Econolodge on their website. The pictures show both the inside and the outside of the hotel, but don't let these pictures fool you. The rooms (and the location) look much nicer than they really are. Too, the cleanliness isn't the best. (Our room hadn't even been vacuumed from the previous occupants, so we had to ask them to come vacuum. They did so, but the room was dark and not the most desirable room.)
