Economic Divide

Cultural Divide

Michael Hardin
There is a growing rift in the world and it is getting bigger by the day. The rift or divide is between rich and poor or those that have and those that have not. This is not just a U. S. problem but one that is world wide. Here are some basic similarities and differences between rich and poor that may help close this divide.

Rich and poor have many things in common the only divide is the fact that one person has more than another. From the least to the greatest we all need to do our part in making sure everyone has the basic needs in life fulfilled. This is not just the wealthiest individual's job it is all of our jobs.

There are degrees of wealth and not just the great divide. One person who sleeps on the street may think the person who lives in a tent is rich. The person in the tent thinks a person who lives in the projects is rich. The person in the projects thinks the person renting a house is rich. The person renting thinks the homeowner is rich. This keeps going up the scale to a person with two homes or three, one mansion or two, one yacht or two and so on up the economic latter.

The varying degrees help us understand that God wants each of us to help one another. If someone is hungry feed them if possible. God does not want us to support any one with a hand out just a loving hand up. Feed a man a fish he will be hungry again tomorrow teach a man to fish he will be fed for life.

Each one of us has someone that looks to us for answers. Each one of us has social responsibilities one to another. We are all linked together while we are here. Helping keep the link strong is not just the super riches job, but each of our jobs.

Let us not fall prey to socialism and programs that will not work let us be strong again as a nation. Let each of us do our parts in making this marriage of many cultures work. Let each of us not hold grudges by coveting our neighbor's belongings.

May God be with us.
