between all the lines in bold face type,
past all the politics,
past the media hype.
Poverty does not segregate,
there are no limits to the age.
I've walked certain streets, seen the elderly homeless,
there are many issues that are an outrage.
There are many that labor hard,
never acquiring beyond their minimal pay,
some jobs that can't offer insurances,
so they struggle to make their own way.
There are the sick, there are the needy,
and it can be a tearful sight to see,
there are the many who fight for years to get help,
and this is another tragedy.
So much pain, watching it all in disgust,
the balance has one sitting up high, the other end upon the floor.
I hear speeches of what can be done,
but it lacks in the many other problems, between it all there is more.
There are talks of what is centered in the middle,
but very little heard about the bottom of a helpless state,
and as the economy breaks, the middle falls out,
and the bottom then too becomes their fate.
I'm not a politician, activist, or protester,
I am just one in a vast majority who has lived life in an economic mess.
I don't drive a fancy car, fine jewelry I don't hold,
I don't have the sponsors and financial backing to run for congress.
Where does one place their trust,
when so much has failed them already,
and when the next in line, the middle slips,
are they going to be prepared, will they be ready?
It is not an easy life,
when one can't afford their rent,
and as they try fighting for what they need,
they end up out in the cold, with not so much as a tent.
I ride through areas to see many abandoned properties,
that probably could get rehabilitated, instead they sit there vacant.
Another construction being built costing thousands, maybe millions of dollars,
while the homeless sit on the streets complacent.
I just can't figure it out, where all the morality went,
where our combinations of cultures set to form the united part of these states disappeared,
where neighbors lended a helping hand, and the respect returned,
and now in this system the hand is feared.
We need something to change, but which parts are the biggest issues?
In a world of sink or swim, who are the ones left to drown?
Cities filling with growth and productivity,
and grants can't be given to help the neighboring small town.
A world that has gone cold,
and the speeches are just growing old,
disappointment and dismay,
just words of a simple woman, in text, type-faced, bold.
