Economic Stimulus: Clever Diversion from the War We're Still In

Antigone
GW (President Bush) wants to give back to the American people and re-ignite the besieged economy. How noble. I mean really, that is to be commended. How does he plan to execute his heart's deepest longing to "give back" after all his years in office?

TWO WORDS: ECONOMIC STIMULUS

Economic stimu-what?

EC-O-NOM-IC STIM-U-LUS (noun - diversion tactic or monetary device employed to hinder a person or a group of people's memory regarding previous bad decisions)

Let me see if I got this right: the war costs $314 billion, the "economic stimulus" is only $150 billion, and all I get as a stuck-in-the-middle-childless-propertyless-victim-of-inflation taxpayer is a lousy $300? All of which you want me to spend rather than apply to debt. And come next year, you'll expect me to pay taxes on it?

READ MY LIPS: TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE

What GW needs to do is conduct a shakedown of certain members in and around the White House perimeter, beginning with his right hand man; I bet you'll find most of our missing/misspent dollars if you just turn Dick Cheney upside down and shake him.

Economic stimulus hoo-ha.

And, if you keep up with this "staying the course in Iraq" rhetoric, there will never be another Republican in the White House again - ever, never mind John McCain's boyish good looks and ultra platinum-blond locks. What's worse, we'll be doomed to yet another 8 hundred years of the Bill & Hillary show, only this time it'll be the Hillary & Bill show; or, if you're the paparazzi, the Billary show. Either way, Canada is great this time of year. (Only Vietnam draft dodgers, and I say that with love, will get that)

President Bush has always contended, "Our administration is concerned about deficits, and the way they deal with deficits is you want to control spending. And I hope Congress lives up to their words. When they talk about deficits, they can join us in making sure we don't overspend. They can join us and make sure that the appropriations process is focused on those issues that -- those items that are absolutely necessary to the American people. I'm pleased that members of the Congress are talking about deficits. It means they understand their obligations not to overspend the people's money."

Is he serious? I think he is. And to prove it, he also wants to "reduce or eliminate about 150 federal programs that he deems wasteful." I hope that includes the Internal Revenue Service. Oh wait, that's Mike Huckabee.

Oh what's the point anyway, we're going around in circles here.

When our biggest problem was the invisible soldier in Iraq, every kid was ours and our loudest cry was "Leave Iraq!" Now we realize that we're so broke we can't pay attention to the details of the division in the Democratic Party and the reality that there is no viable Republican candidate. Bush seems to think that if he throws a few bucks our way, we'll relent in our chastising of his legacy. This economic stimulus is equivalent to saying, "let them eat cake."

By feeding the impatient nature of the American people (kinda like aggressive mortgage lenders), he doesn't want to "load down the bill" as it would delay the rebate, which is said to be scheduled for distribution in May. He should allow it to be loaded down as more of us will probably be laid-off and need more unemployment benefits.

Nothing has rally changed. So enjoy your $300, $1200, or whatever you get now because it'll cost you more in the long run.

Proud to be in American, right?

Still need convincing?

The last time I was asked for a mini bio I copied and pasted Joan Crawford's.  View profile

I am interested in politics this year for two reasons. The optimism that is Barack and the outright horror that is Huckabee.
