In Colorado Springs, after what seemed a long couple of years, the economy appears to be turning around. As you look around the city, there are signs of growth. Signs are out at businesses wanting to hire employees. The job perspective for Colorado Springs on line has increased quite a bit in the last few months. For awhile there, it appeared the classifieds in the Gazette were becoming non-existent. Now, they appear to be thickening somewhat.

The business that I work for has hired 2 people in the last 2 months. The growth we have experienced has been tremendous. I think because of the recession, our business increased over time and now people are continuing to save money by keeping their older vehicles longer. But appearances in the Springs area are giving us indications that the worst may be over.

Overall, Colorado Springs buckled down when things got bad and tried to hold on to what growth it had to that point. Businesses cut back some and adjusted their spending to comply with their business. There were businesses that closed during the economic downturn and probably won't be reopening. At one point, it appeared there was an onslaught of closures and auctions of local businesses, but that too has seemed to slow down. It would make us think that the economy is surely starting to turn around.

For the many residents of Colorado Springs, being able to withstand the economic storm, has brought a glimmer of hope back into the local economy. Not only are there lots of places hiring now, there are beginning to be upstarts of new businesses. From restaurants to custom auto shops, there are people who are venturing out on a dream to have their own business in a time when many may say they are crazy. However, in this area, the prospect of a glimmer of a chance to make it work has brought out the brave souls.

I think another sign of a potential light at the end of the tunnel is the new home industry and the real estate industry. Though not anywhere close to what it was before the recession, home sales and new home builds are there. Real estates have taken a beating in Colorado Springs as well as the new home business. Many home builders and local real estates had to bite the bullet and hope they could stay in business until the economy got better. It looks like they may be showing signs of some growth now if the emails I get and the research I have done is correct.

All in all, I think Colorado Springs, like other parts of the country may be coming out of this recession. Maybe as leaner, more efficient, but nevertheless, still holding their heads above water. It shows that hope, hard work, perseverance and some common sense can take you a long way in survival. Let's hope our economy is back on the plus side of the sheet and that with the lessons learned, we will not be here again soon.
