Ecotourism in Florida

Paula Andra
Anyone who has vacationed in or traveled to Florida is most likely familiar with our beach communities, such as the Tampa Bay area, the Panhandle area, the Space Coast, Daytona area, Miami area beaches and the Keys just to mention a few. Or they have visited such tourist spots as Orlando which has Disney, Universal Studios and the outlet malls or Tampa Bay where Busch Gardens, Adventure Island, Hard Rock Casino and Ybor City are located or Miami with their club scene.

There are also those who come to Florida to camp, either by RV or in a cabin or a bit more primitively by tent or backpack or to fish either by charter or by individual route both freshwater and saltwater.

But there is another way to enjoy Florida and that is by taking an ecotour. There are a lot of different choices as well as a lot of different venues with varying locations. I am suggesting three websites which offer a wide range of choices and a variety of locations.

The first website represents Southwest Ecotours which is based in Naples. They offer airboat rides into the Audobon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, the Ten Thousand Islands area and the Everglades as well as other tours. Lunch at an Everglades restaurant is included in most of the tours.

They are also located close to the Miami, Palm Beach and Ft Lauderdale areas so there are a lot of other things you can do and see.

The second website is for Key West Ecotours which is located on Key West. They offer a variety of tours and rentals for individual activities.

The tours offer either kayaking, yachting, motor boating, sailboating, or catamaran boating. On these tours you can explore reefs, sponge beds, marine life while snorkeling or diving or helping with the sailing while watching for large sea life or traveling among the mangroves and discovering hidden wildlife in the local wildlife sanctuary.

The yacht is also available for special "at sea" charters or wedding charters or for breakfast or sunset cruises.

You can also rent your own stand up paddle board and go do your own thing. There is a variety of boards for the beginner to the experienced paddler.

Each choice is either linked to another website or lists a phone number.

Since this is located in the Keys, there are a lot of other things available to do in the Keys, such enjoy their own unique version of the club scene and to visit the house that Ernest Hemingway lived in with his many cats.

At the third site, Central Florida Tours, has a wide variety of locations throughout Florida, with different venues and activities offered.

They offer tours of the Kennedy Space Center, swimming with the Manatees, airboat tours, tours on the west coast of Florida and the east coast of Florida, ecotours, gator sighting tours, fishing, hot air balloon rides, Everglade tours and tours of the Miami area as well as tours in other parts of Florida.

This particular website lists the different offerings, some with links to other websites and some in a list on an order form that you can click on and order online. There are way too many choices to list all of the prices.

I planned to teach college art in studio & history. But I needed to home school our son and did short term missions instead, which benefited from my education. I write about the trips I take for our ministry.  View profile
