Ecstasy Abuse in Kansas City

The Drug That Thrills and Kills

Mackenzie Clark
Ecstasy, or methylenedioxymethamphetamine, (MDMA) is a psychoactive stimulant drug that more and more people are abusing. Created in Germany in the year 1898 as a diet pill, it never gained popularity, but it picked up in the 1960's. It was abused as a recreational drug and grew even more popular in the 1990's. It was made illegal in the United States in 1985 due to recreational users, but this had no effect.

What does it do? The chemicals in ecstasy release serotonin (the brain's chemical that induces happiness) in short bursts, creating a very intense high. How is it taken? Ecstasy is usually swallowed, but sometimes snorted or injected. It has even been inserted rectally.

The anticipated high from ecstasy involves euphoria, extreme happiness, a very high mood lift, heightening of all the senses (especially touch), and very defined, brightened colors. The world appears more beautiful. It lasts an average of 3-6 hours, but can last up to a full day. Vitamin C is known to intensify the high.

Most users do not realize that ecstasy, while the high may be wonderful, can cause deep depression for weeks after use. It can also cause vomiting, dry mouth, dehydration, muscle tension, headaches, difficulty concentrating, and a raised body temperature.

There are several long term effects from ecstasy as well. Over time, it can cause corruption of brain cells, depletion of serotonin, loss of memory, liver damage, and possible neurotoxicity.

Ecstasy is mainly manufactured in Holland, Poland, and the Netherlands. There, it is sold for about 10 cents a piece, but in the States, it can range anywhere from $20-$40 a pill. Sadly enough, "If you know the right people, it's not hard to find," says an anonymous source.

There are many different varieties of ecstasy. The most common in Kansas City are white lady, blue dolphin, blue lady, butterfly, and fish. There are also different types of ecstasy, depending on what drug they're based on. These drugs include cocaine, methamphetamine, ketamine, and heroin. The base effects the high greatly, and users typically have a preference for the kind they like. It is also often combined with LSD, psychedelic mushrooms, and ketamine.

According to statistics, most users have only tried marijuana before they try ecstasy.

Though death from an ecstasy overdose is rare, many, many deaths occur from related causes. "I knew a girl who took an ecstasy pill and decided to go dancing... Eventually she started feeling dehydrated so she drank way too much water in a very short time period. I guess all the water threw off her electrolytes and diluted her body, so she died," says another anonymous source.

Ecstasy is a very common drug at parties and raves. Dancing and music enhances the high, so this is why it's often found in clubs and such.

Despite the illegalities of ecstasy, it still continues to grow more and more common among many countries.

  • Ecstasy is a psychoactive stimulant.
  • It is produced mainly in Europe and smuggled to the U.S.
  • It can, and has, caused death.
9 out of every 10 ecstasy pills brought to the U.S. come from Europe.

ive done ALOT of drug related substances and honestly drugs arent that harmfull to you if you do them smartly. over the course of 4 and a half years ive done alot of ecstacy, lsd, 2c-i, 2c-b, coke, k, mdma, pot, honey oil, shrooms, and even dxm and im fine. i have pretty good grades and im not a bum. so in my eyes i think these illegal drugs should be able to do in the privacy of your own home at least because who has the right to tell us that we cant do something because it can harm us. it should be our choice as individuals to make these decisions , like so what we wanna get high its awsome lol to be able to experience things we normally cant experience!

i think e is the best drug ever. I have met alot of cool people since I started rolling in July. It's not bad like the others have said if used in moderation

what makes esctasy so bad is that the chemists use bullshit in the pills as a filler and a cut, Thing like meth, 2c-x substances, DXM, PCM,
and many many more. This is what makes the drug bad and addicitive not the MDMA itself, so yes in all fairness esctasy is bad but only due to the high volume of other chemicals that are cheaper and easier to make or aquire being put into this beautiful experience.

Ive taking exctasy blue dolphins before for the first time. it was a terrible experience but breath taking experience for a short moment.. my head felt like it was gonna burt yet when i laided down on a leather seated chair, i felt like i was sleeping on a cloud. i never tried any drug that ever felt as good. Exctasy is only a harmful drug if not used the rite way but you can always have a little fun in your life once in a while.

If you plan to write about a drug, i find that it is better to sample said drug, so that you do not give the wrong information. Long term effects of ecstasy have not yet been pulblished, and therefore we can not be certain long term users will turn out. It is my undstanding, there is testing going on as we speak to figure out what the long term effects will be. There is a chance that there are no long term effects and that this drug is ultimately harmless compards to the mainstream drugs. Another thing not pionted out is how once you take ecstacy, everything seems easier to do. You feel less akward, and therefore dance better among other things. You can also feel an intensified feel of attraction and an intensified longing for sexual attration. one thing i will piont out about the useing of ecstacy is that you don't feel too much pain and that you also become easily amused.. my friend discovered that the hard way. I lit up a jiont while she was on E and she took my lighter witch seeme

There's alot of misleading information about E...

It mostly gets a bad review because it's illegal;drugs laws are often passed through ignorance and the mantra 'drugs are bad'...If you do your own research instead of absorbing the mainsteam propoganda you'd realise that E isn't as bad as we're made to believe.

If E were legal i believe it would get a much better review than alcohol. Alcohol; a leagal drug is much worse in all respects.

"The UK figures suggest seven ecstasy-related deaths per million users. This compares to 625 alcohol-related deaths per million drinkers. In fact, more people in the UK die from choking on peanuts than from taking ecstasy."

I take E with my friends in small gatherings with close friends...we listen to music and chat. We're not harming anyone else and respect other peoples views. ALL drugs should be used cautiously; used in moderation and in a happy mind-set E is a great drug.

personaly ecstasy is the best drug i have ever done and it is my reccomandation

I'm on blue dolphin right now and it's a wonderful experience. I'm 31 years old, use ecstacy about once a year to enhance my thoughts and to release love to my wife. It is not a bad drug when used in moderation and with a trusted source. I do not recommend using any drugs to anyone that has addictive tendacies or anyone whom let's it interfere with their life negatively. Be cautious, but it's ok to have some fun every once in a while.
