What really is Eczema? It is a rash like skin condition, a condition in which the skin becomes red, dry, itchy and even painful. Normally occurring among children and adults, Eczema is commonly found in infants. About 10 to 25 percent of all infants have Eczema.

Commonly found in the creases of the waists, elbows and behind the knees, Eczema is not contagious. It looks different from person to person, but the most common characteristic is the dry, red itchy patch on the skin. Anyhow no real cure has been found out yet for Eczema.

Different kinds of Eczema are found and the most common ones are the Atopic and Contact Eczema. Atopic Eczema or Atopic dermatitis is commonly seen on the face, scalp, neck, inside of the elbows and behind the knees. The contact Eczema occurs when substances or chemicals irritate the skin and cause an allergic reaction. Among older people, the Xerotic Eczema is common and is found in the limbs and trunk. Then there is the Dyshidrosis or housewife's Eczema, which occurs on the palms, soles, fingers and toes. Neurodermatitis, Venous Eczema and Autoaczematisation are the other Eczemas found.

It is very easy to diagnosis Eczema. No need for any blood tests and biopsy, the inflamed, itchy skin makes it easy to detect.

Though medial science is yet to find a cure for Eczema, there are ways to control it. Light therapy using UV rays is known to have some controlling effect on Eczema. Some traditional herbs are also in vogue. However, no proper treatment has been found for Eczema. Well, the only best way is to prevent the things that trigger allergies in the skin.

First of all avoid the things that trigger and irritate the skin. May be some detergents, cleansers, lotions and harsh soaps could irritate the skin. Avoid using hard detergents and soaps as it can strip the natural skin oils and make the skin excessively dry, which can cause Eczema.

People with Eczema always have a tendency to scratch the skin. But it is better to prevent scratching. Apply creams and lotions that give relief from itching. Out in the market, you can come across lotions and creams. Always consult the doctor before you buy lotions and creams. If you have no relief from itching, it is better to consult a doctor.

You have to be careful with the food also. Some foods can also trigger allergy. The weather is also a determining factor in managing Eczema. Avoid sudden changes in temperature or humidity and avoid getting too hot and sweaty.

Well, always keep away from the things that irritate your skin. Though no proper cure is there for Eczema, only controlling it can be healthy.
