E.D. Hill: Fist Bump or Not to Fist Bump - What's the Big Deal?

Race in the Race for President

E.D. Hill commented incorrectly regarding the "fist bump" seen 'round the world by calling it a "terrorist fist jab." She has since apologized for this error.

But how will this affect my vote in the General Elections in November 2008?

It won't!

Since the beginning of this years' political windstorm, there has been a great surge aimed at Illinois Junior Senator, Barak Hussein Obama. Much of it has been negative in its transmission. Most of it has been false.

Unfortunately, E.D. Hill was ignorant in the verbalization of the viewed "bump." If E.D. Hill would watch sporting events on television, she would see for himself the bump, also called "knuckle up" has been around a while. It is a sign of agreement between participating parties. It had replaced the highly outdated high five, especially in urban areas across the country.

But that aside...The question is, will this or other inferences aimed at the Black Presidential candidate have any effect on my choice. Again, I say "NO"!

I consider myself an intelligent black woman who looks beyond such transparent and unnecessary arguments and idiocies that abound during political sessions. I see the issues that are prevalent and far more important to the country, not the shallow and superficial spouting of opposing contenders.

I reside in the south suburban area of Chicago, Illinois. An area that is job-poor and crime-rich. Many of the residents in this area are more concerned about high taxes, low income, skyrocketing gasoline and food prices and rampant acts of crime than they are as to whether or not a black man will be president or if he has alleged connections to terrorists - which have been proven abundantly wrong I might add.

E.D. Hill's lack of research shows just how little many people need to see something negative where there is none. Why can't we accept what we see/hear and deal with facts and not fiction?

If Obama were a white male named Kevin Smith, raised by parents who were both American and white and closet church goers , we would not be having these ridiculous discussions. But because Obama is a black male who is open about his faith, we have to contend with these inane ideas of color and religion instead of laws and rules that continue to oppress the poor and give financial freedom to the wealthy.

If E.D. Hill wants to discuss something, talk about the fact that people in south suburban Chicago are in need of better school funding. Talk about the fact that most of the children in this area are using both outdated books and equipment, and they have teachers that are severely underpaid and grossly overworked.

E.D. Hill should talk about the fact that the better paying jobs with better benefit packages are located in Barrington, Aurora, and other far northern suburbs - Jobs that have a promise of a better life and lifestyle along with better transportation to the jobs.

E.D. Hill should take the time to discuss the fact that millions of Americans are either underinsured, or like myself, uninsured. The very thought of getting ill is something we cannot afford because simply seeing an emergency room physician will cost us thousands of dollars we don't have to begin with.

We go untreated with diseases like diabetes, heart disease, asthma and even cancer because the idea of free medical help died with the Reagan administration.

The continual rise of gasoline prices coupled with the decreasing value of the dollar and paychecks that haven't seen a boost in the cost of living worthy of mentioning is the topic E.D. Hill should be expounding upon...not a friendly, victorious exchange of expression the "fist bump" exemplifies.

These are the REAL issues in the 2008 Presidential campaign. These are the issues Barack Obama - a black man of black/African heritage - is willing, ready and able to combat when he is elected to the highest office in the land. He sees there is a need for change and will fight to bring change about - for all ALL Americans and not the "entitled" or chosen few.

Let's worry about the issues not a gesture. Gestures will change and fade into oblivion, but political change will last into the next generation, and those to follow.

A "fist bump" to Obama...our next President!
