Eddie Murphy: A 'Delirious' Moment at the Altar

Two Weeks After Faux Wedding Ceremony, Murphy and Edmonds Are Calling it Quits

Oh no. Not again. Another celebrity marriage driving off the cliffs on the way home from the ceremony. Two weeks after Eddie Murphy reportedly married the ex of Kenneth (Babyface) Edmonds, the marriage is already kaput.

Eddie Murphy (46) and Tracey Edmonds (40) had what they called a "symbolic union" performed in Bora Bora in front of 25 close family and friends.

Apparently, there never was a legal marriage at all according to statements made by the pair to the press: "After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further."

The statement concluded, "While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends."

Just another turn in the bizarre events of Murphy's life. His marriage of twelve years to Nicole Murphy fell apart in 2005 almost eight years after Murphy was caught with a transvestite prostitute in his car. Murphy swears he was just offering a troubled stranger a ride.

Murphy had six children with his ex-wife. In 2006, Mel B. (aka. "Scary Spice") of former Spice Girls' fame, announced that she was pregnant with Murphy's child. She and Murphy split and Murphy vehemently denied paternity until a DNA test proved him as the child's father. Now he is back in the news again on more unfavorable terms.

What is it that makes these celebrity marriages more ephemeral than the flowers at the ceremony?

It would seem that most of these unions involve at least one person who is a complete trainwreck and Eddie Murphy's history over the past several years is starting to show a sign of derailment.

Marriage is supposed to be comprised of two individuals who are emotionally stable and of sound mind. The problem is, this is rarely the case. Especially in the world that today's celebrities live in. Paparazzi are relentless, your personal business is constantly aired through public outlets, and you can't go anywhere or do anything without the whole world knowing about it. This invasion of privacy could drive even the sanest of individuals out of their minds.

Let's take a look at Britney Spears, famous trainwreck, with a history of two unsuccessful marriages, one of which lasted less than 24 hours. Spears literally grew up in the public eye, is a number one target for paparazzi, has been lusted after by men of all ages, and has been warped by the no-holds-barred party life of today's young starlets.

It's obvious that her mental state is corrupt and she is unfit to marry anyone. Take Kevin Federline, who dumped his ex Shar Jackson while she was pregnant with their second child for Britney.

Federline, himself, was a mess. He was a noted pothead and partier married to the biggest trainwreck in the history of pop culture. It's obvious why the marriage failed when the two counterparts were mentally unfit to marry.

Pamela Anderson married Rick Salomon late last year. Yes, that Rick Salomon of Paris Hilton sex tape fame and ex-husband of Shannon Doherty. Pamela and Rick were married on October 6th and are now going through divorce proceedings. Were Rick and Pamela planning a sex tape sequel to go along with both of their infamous romps in the past?

Salomon is only another trainwreck who has capitalized on his hookups with other famous trainwrecks. You will know the world is over when he and Britney are announced as a couple.

Given examples like the above, Eddie Murphy's brief union isn't winning awards for the most insane example of Hollywood marriages gone wrong. In fact, some sources are saying their union failed because Tracey Edmonds did not want to take Eddie Murphy's last name for professional reasons. Tracey Edmonds isn't one you would call a trainwreck. She is a graduate of Stanford University with a degree in Psychobiology and is the President and CEO of Edmonds Entertainment Group, Inc. She also runs a film production company with her former husband that movies such as Good Luck Chuck, Soul Food, and Josie and the Pussycats.

Given Murphy's shenanigans in recent years, it seems like he just isn't ready to settle down again at the moment. His comedic genius and legendary stand-up performances have forged him a place in showbiz history. Let's hope he can avoid derailment and ending up in the hall of fame of marital messes again by making sure he's ready the next time he finds himself at the altar.

Nice article! I must confess I watch some celebrity gossip. What you say about Eddie not being married legally makes sense! I couldn't believe that he'd get married, legally again after his history with women. What you say rings true.

Poor Brit, Brit. Can you imagine making $750,000 a MONTH and not knowing what to do with yourself? If I were her I'd take up painting, take courses at college-oh wait, you usually have to have graduated high school before you can go to college. That explains the photos of her sister Jamie Lynn with a GED book under her arm.
