A New FantasyIsland...
Like some of the other comedies Murphy has starred in, he will be playing more than one role, in the film adapted from the 1970's hit television series. The show ran from 1978 to 1984 on the ABC network. On that show, suave actor Ricardo Montalban served as the mysterious island's proprietor. In 1998, the series was revamped by ABC, with Malcolm McDowell assuming the role of the elusive "Mr. Roarke," who was particularly known for his enigmatic aura, and crisp white suits. On the fictional island, visitors flown in were invited to live out their wildest fantasies; but most often the results were found to be slightly different than what the guests originally expected.

In the television show's adaptation, Murphy is set to fill "Mr. Roarke's" (Montalban) debonair actor's role, amongst several others. Although the famous comedian has played multiple roles in his films before, it has not been pointed out whether he will assume the role of "Tattoo", Montalban's tiny assistant, played originally by Herve Villechaize. The most recent transformation the actor has made on screen was in the popular film "Norbit", in which he portrays a sassy overweight woman. "Norbit " creators David Ronn and Jay Scherick are teaming up with Murphy to create the new "Fantasy Island"; the new adaptation is slated to be released as a family comedy.
The 46 year-old actor, who has most recently been linked to a scandal involving former Spice Girl, Melanie Brown (and her new infant daughter) is currently in the negotiations stages with Columbia Pictures regarding the project.
Earlier in the year, the comedian was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the blockbuster smash, "Dreamgirls." And before the new "Fantasy Island" film is released, Murphy is set to star in a science fiction comedy called "Starship Dave" which will be released in May of 2008. Recently, his most famous work was in the upcoming film "Shrek the Third" which is being released during Mother's Day weekend. The release date for the new version of "Fantasy Island" has not yet been revealed. The director of this film has also not been announced.
