Edgar Allen Poe

Edgar Allen Poe is one my favorite short story writers. Always has been, even as a child, I loved listening to his stories during Halloween. Reading poe's stories and poems always bring back amazing memories of Halloween's past and how I used to have nightmares for days on end, but I loved it.

Poe was born on January 19th, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts and passed away October 7th, 1849 at age 49 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was an American author, poet, editor and was considered to be part of the American Romantic Movement. He is best known for writing stories and tales of Mystery and the Macabre and is said to be the inventor of detective fiction.

I am a fan of Edgar Allen Poe because he has defined the classic American horror scene for future horror writers. Although in his time, Poe was mostly recognized as a literary critic. James Russell Lowell, who was a fellow critic had called him "the most discriminating, philosophical and fearless critic upon imaginative works who has written in America."

Today, Poe is used in textbooks to teach kids about poetry and short stories which shows you how much of an influence he is still having in our Society still today.
