Edible Christmas Decorations

Christmas decorations and ornaments purchased in a store are lovely and festive, but they lack the personalization that homemade varieties offer. There truly is something very satisfying about adorning your home with holiday decor that you created with your own two hands. This article will offer several ideas on how you can easily and inexpensively decorate your home for the holiday season using edible materials. Not only are these crafts fun and easy to make, they have the added bonus of a divine scent to really make a living space feel like Christmas.

Make a Stunning Holiday Display with Red Delicious Apples. Who doesn't appreciate the gorgeous color of a bold red apple? Fill a silver or white bowl with four or five red and juicy apples. Place red or white taper candles in between the fruit, using a bit of adhesive putty to anchor them in place. Outline the edges of the bowl with a thin garland of holiday greenery. Switch out the bowl for a wicker basket filled with apples, pine cones and taper candles for a table centerpiece that has a bit of cozy country feeling.

Fill Wine Glasses with Peppermints. A square or oblong silver tray can be dressed up for the holidays by placing several wine glasses on top and then filled to the rims with cellophane wrapped peppermints. Your Christmas and New Year's guests can help themselves to a minty treat while enjoying the holiday festivities.

Decorate with Mason Jars Filled with Cinnamon Sticks. The scent of cinnamon just bursts with traditional holiday feeling. Wrap bunches of sticks with gingham ribbons and place in spotlessly clean Mason Jars. Place the jars on counter tops, toilet tanks and entertainment centers to envelop the home with the wonderful aroma of an old fashioned Christmas.

Bake Loaves of Pumpkin and Raisin Bread. If you love to mark the holiday season by baking loaves of pungent and delicious bread, use them as decorating pieces before digging in. Wrap the loaves in red or green colored cellophane and lay them out on decorative trays. Tie them up with festive ribbon to add a little more festivity. Set the tray on a kitchen or dining room table and enjoy the visual appeal until it is time to slice them up or give them out as gifts.

Fill a Stocking With Oranges. Many of us remember stories our grandparents told us of lean holidays where a juicy and fresh orange was the epitome of a seasonal treat. Give a nod to those times by filling a simple Christmas stocking with a bounty of the citrus fruit. Allow a few oranges to peek out over the cuff. If you are so inclined, adorn each piece with cloves for a little extra flair.

Create a Table Runner with Cranberries and Popcorn. We are all familiar with decorating holiday trees with strands of cranberries and popcorn. A fun and unique way to use these edible items is to make a cute table runner using those holiday garlands. Use a needle and heavy thread to string alternating berries and popcorn. Gather the strands in a figure eight shape and lay them in the middle of the holiday table. Place red or green votive candles in the open spaces. Your guests will be amazed at the inventive way you chose to use this traditional holiday decor item.

Make this Christmas a holiday to remember with these fun and festive seasonal decorations that can be enjoyed by all the senses.
