Edible Summer Craft Project in a Bag: Homemade Ice Cream

meeker
Ice cream is one of the greatest summer time treats of all time! This summer have a little fun and make this summer craft that you can eat! You can make homemade ice cream in a bag in about 5 to 10 minutes. The kids are always looking for things to do in the summer. So next time your kids say "I'm Bored", whip out this cool summer craft and have some fun!

You will need:
- 1 ½-2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- ½ cup milk
- 1 pint-size plastic Ziploc food storage bag
- 6 tablespoons rock salt
- 1 gallon-size plastic Ziploc food storage bag
- Ice Cubes

Put sugar, vanilla and milk into the pint-size plastic Ziploc food storage bag and seal well. Next fill the gallon-size plasic Ziploc food storage bag with ice cubes and add the rock salt. Place the smaller Ziploc bag inside the larger ba and seal the larger bag.

Now have some fun! Shake and mix until the mixture becomes ice cream. My kids enjoy taking turns mixing the bag. It should take about 5 to 10 minutes. Carefully open the larger bag and pull out the smaller bag of ice cream. Open the smaller bag and enjoy your cool treat!

This recipe makes about a ½ a cup of ice cream, you could double the recipe to get about a cup of homemade ice cream. The bag gets kind of cold so my girls like to put on their winter gloves while holding onto the bag to mix it. You could just place the bag in a towel to keep your hands from getting cold.

To add a twist to your ice cream, smash up some strawberries or blueberries and put it in the mix to give your ice cream some extra flavor. You can also try putting fruit juice in the smaller Ziploc bag instead of the milk mixture. Your result will be similar to a fruit sorbet.

So this summer when your trying to find something for the kids to do, try this quick little craft that you can eat right away!
