Turkey Cookies
Turkey cookies are easy to make, and this edible craft is a good craft for young children. For this Thanksgiving treat you will need large round cookies, a butter knife, chocolate frosting, candy corn, small round candies, scissors, and wax paper.
Start by placing all the candy out on the table along with the frosting. You want the frosting to be warm so it is easy to work with. Help children make a pastry bag by rolling a large piece of wax paper into a cone. Fill it partially with frosting and twist the end tight. This will create pressure on the frosting and make it easy to squeeze out.
Cut the very tip of the cone off so the frosting can come out. Help children practice drawing with the pastry bag on cookies or wax paper. Then help children draw a V for a nose and two legs on the cookie. The legs can be on the bottom edge, and they are made up of three lines for the claws and one line for the leg.
Then add two small dots of frosting for the eyes and press the round candies into them. Add another dot for pupils in the middle of the candy. Then add the candy corn as feathers by spreading the frosting around half of the cookie. Press the candy corn into the frosting in the shape of a half circle. Put the cookies in the fridge to harden the frosting, and you can your children can enjoy them immediately.
Indian Candy Corn
A fun and edible Thanksgiving craft that is good for both young and older children is Indian Candy Corn. For this craft you will need popcorn, peanut butter, a Twinkie, a Popsicle stick, large round candies in fall colors, and a knife.
Start by pushing the Popsicle stick into the center of the Twinkie. Then cover one side with peanut butter. Help children press candy and popcorn into the peanut butter to look like Indian corn. Continue until all sides of the cake are covered. Refrigerate this edible craft, and it will be much easier to serve.
Edible crafts are great for many reasons. Children love edible crafts, and they also double as a snack. Try this edible craft with your children to bring in the spirit of Thanksgiving.
