Edit Photos and Images Directly from Your Web Browser

Clark Richards
I have discovered two web sites that enable one to quickly edit photographs that are in a personal collection or pictures that have been captured from the web. No software is required as one can edit photos directly from their browser. It just can't get any easier and even a computer clutz like myself has found success.

There are many times when one wants to quickly modify a photograph and all that is required is to resize, crop, edit, or perhaps add a few simple special effects to enhance the pictures or images. These sites enable the user to do just that from their web browser. No software, no installation, no cost! These web based editing programs are effective and produce the desired results without all the complications associated with much of the retail software that is available or the tutorials that might have to be studied for specialized photo editing. These sites are Snipshot and Picnik and links are located below. Both possess intuitive menus and simply clicking on a menu subject will clearly provide the visual opportunity to see the effects of your changes. There is even an undo button in case your change didn't produce the effect you desired. Picnik has enhancements than are not available at Snipshot, but both sites fill the bill for quick, simple, no complications photo editing. One of the features that I often use is to change the file extensions from gif, jpg, pdf, psd, png, tif to any other. I also like to round the edges of many images. Since my computer knowledge is limited, that is like magic!

Picnik enables the user to place borders on photos, change a photo to black and white, add tints, or doodle on a photo as well as several other options, but if one wants to simply crop, resize, or change a file extension then I prefer Snipshot.

The photos that I have included with this article has been extracted from a larger photo and resized, then cropped to remove much of the background and of course the border was added and some fade applied to the second picture. Total time taken was less than 5 minutes and now I have two photos of Lulu to place in her scrapbook. It dawned on me as I was experimenting with my photos that I just might want to do more. Hmm? I guess that is the intent of these sites. Anyway, if you were unaware of how easy it can be, I recommend that you have a go - these sites make any small photo editing tasks simple, quick and easy. Enjoy.
