The teen was whacking the bullets to empty the brass shell casings when one hit him in the abdomen wounding him. The bullet went into his abdomen about a half an inch. although the teen will be okay, can you imagine what could have happened? The teen could have been killed in reality. No charges were filed, But this incident could have turned tragic. the teen had hit at least a hundred bullets before this one hit him in the abdomen. they weren't sure if it ricocheted or him him directly.
I think our society in New York pays a dollar or so for a pound of brass shell casings and from what could be determined this is what the teen was doing. I have a better idea for this teen collect cans or something. Recycle something safer. Ammunition is nothing to play around with in or out of a firearm. and especially unattended. I have nothing against the right to bear arms ,however I do believe there should be an age limit for even the ammunition. Courses should have to be taken when purchasing a firearm as well.
there is nothing as faar as I know that stresses the danger of ammunition. It all usually in part about the firearm the person has purchased. It may say the type of ammunition best used for the weapon but it does not recall anything about ammunition being dangerous if it is misused properly. or people just do not read. And in our society today it is so easy for people to even get their hands on a weapon illegally and it is wrong. that just makes the entire scenerio worsen. People need to be awarem and even some adults if they don't care about the dangers of improper use of ammunition, the result could be deadly. In this case the teen was fortunate.
Although I do hope in the future this teen has learned a valuable lesson about the use of ammunition and the way it should be used. Not hitting it with a hammer simply for the brass casings, He survived the incident now lets hope he learned the lesson and doesnt do it again.
