An advertisement can spoil or add the reputation of a product through the way it is being advertised. An advertisement, which feeds the people with false or exaggerated information, will actually spoil the reputation of the product being offered through the advertisement. Sufficient research has to be made about the consumer behavior before an advertisement is planned. As advertisement also helps in brand building, these are very important. Creativity in advertisement should be encouraged but it should not go beyond the limits.
While planning an advertisement plan it as an educational material. A good advertisement calls for ideas blended into pictures and meaningful words. Some advertisements are so thought provoking and refreshing. A good advertisement should convey fact and not exaggeration or false information. Adding some technical information related to the product will really educate people. For e.g., if a digital camera is being advertised, its outstanding features such as the range of optical zooming can be included in the advertisement. This is a fact and technical information, which educates and enables the user to compare other similar products in the market. The same is true while preparing an advertisement for an automobile. The technical information about it can provide an insight to the user about the automobile and enables him to compare it with other automobiles. Even the description of product features in detail in an advertisement is useful and does the job of educating the mass through advertisement.
Another way of adding useful information to an advertisement is including survey results conducted by the company. Many companies are conducting survey either directly or through a third party. The survey results show the general trend about using a particular product. This can gain the trust of mass.
A good advertisement never misleads people. It should help people to select best one for them. It should convey ideas to the minds of the people in a most effective manner. While doing the job of promoting a product and brand building, it also should share the right information at the right time. It should guide the people to the right direction and with the correct and worthy information.
