June 3rd officially marks the beginning of summer vacation for our children here in Spartanburg county. Us parents are already busy at work planning our children's summer break, trying desperately to fill those long summer days with fun and educational activities for our children. Sometimes its hard to get kids to go along with the plans parents make for them. They're much more interested in hanging out with there friends and having fun, which is what summers all about. But we also want to include some educational activities in those long, fun filled days. As a South Carolina mom, I know how hard it is to find educational activities for my child, something they will actually enjoy participating in. But there are many organizations in South Carolina that sponsor activities for children during those summer vacation months, activities that any child is sure to love.

For the young astronomer in the family aged 6 and up, there's flying saucers summer camp in Spartanburg. The camp hours are Monday through Friday, 9 until 5. Flying Saucers features lots of creative painting and art projects. Kids will also receive meals and snacks, as well as interesting field trips throughout the summer. There is a fee for campers of all ages.

Anderson mill bible church will sponsor a vacation bible school for kids ages 3 through 12. It all starts June 7, and lasts through June 11th, hours are 6-830 p.m. VBS features fun, interesting and educational bible activities that teach our children about god and how to live for god successfully. They will also sponsor various summer and day camps. Like the cooking camps which are happening June 22-25 and July 27th through the 30th, for rising 3rd-5th graders, and k5 thru 2nd graders. Hours are 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and there is a small charge for the class. They also have preschool day camps for kids ages 2-5 for 35 dollars a week.

Restoration church in Spartanburg will be featuring many exciting and fun classes for children this summer. With reasonable fees and convenient, fun times and a great general location off hwy 26 in Spartanburg, it's the place for parents to choose for there kids this summer break. They are featuring a diverse group of classes catering to the different interests of our children. Including Spanish, etiquette and manners, martial arts, cooking for kids, dance classes, sewing, woodworking, arts and crafts, even sports camps taught by certified area P.E. coach's. They also have convenient daily or weekly payment plans.

Wofford college will be hosting the Mike Young basketball camp with 3 sessions beginning june 21st and ending august 12th. These camps are for children aged 7-18. This camp is especially great because, if you have older children in junior high or high school, its especially hard to find entertaining and educational activities for them to participate in. Wofford will also host a soccer camp for kids aged 10-18. For more information or to enroll call 864-597-4117. Monkey Joes will be having weekly play dates all summer long. Monkey Joes is the place to get together with friends to hang out and play. And now, with the summer breeze pass, kids can visit and play everyday for as little as $1.60 per day.

The Foothills Fencing Academy will teach your children the oldest and one of the coolest sports around; fencing. They have several mini camps for children ages 8 and up.

The International Ballet Academy will be offering classes for children aged 8 and 9. These classes are designed to develop and grow a love for dancing in your child.

Christ Church Episcopal school will be featuring chess camp for ages 5 thru 16. They have morning, afternoon and evening classes beginning July 20th and ending on the 24th at the school in Greenville s.c. Or consider letting the kids take a class at the S.C. aquarium, Georgia aquarium or even one of the great educational classes at woodland heights recreation center. These classes are usually low priced and lots of fun. They cater to the various interests of children, with such classes as cheerleading, tumbling, gymnastics, singing lessons, guitar lessons and arts and crafts.

Does your child harbor a love for animals? Horses in particular? Then you might consider letting them participate in the different summer camps offered at Eden farms in Marietta S.C. These classes are for children aged 5-12, and feature a daily riding lesson, hands on horse education classes, arts and crafts, and tons of fun games for your kids. At the end of the camps certificates and ribbons will be awarded to all campers. Price is $165 per week for each camper. There are lots more events, classes and camps in the South Carolina area for your kids to participate in this summer.
