Educational Bulletin Board Ideas for May

Sarah Ganly
Involving students in the decoration of bulletin boards gets students involved in the classroom and lessons, and adding educational themes to your bulletin board provides thoughtfulness and learning to these projects. May has a lot of fun holidays, and this article will discuss several educational bulletin board ideas for the month of May.

Mother Goose Day

On May first, Mother Goose Day is celebrated, and this provides an opportunity for learning. Mother Goose is famous for her nursery rhymes, and this can teach students about many important language arts concepts. For this bulletin board cover the board in a pastel color paper.

Then read several Mother Goose rhymes to students. It is also helpful to print out some of the rhymes and hand them out to students. Then break the class into groups and help groups create their own nursery rhymes. Have the students write the rhymes on pieces of construction paper with brightly colored markers.

Place the rhymes all over the board. It is also nice to add pictures of animals and nature items to add detail. Printing a picture of Mother Goose off the Internet and adding it to the board is also a nice idea for this educational bulletin board.

Space Day

The first Friday in May is also known as Space Day. For this fun holiday you should plan an educational bulletin board. Start by talking to students about space. Then let them chose some topics about space they would like to discuss. Have students work in groups to make a visual representation and small written assignment about the space themed topic they chose.

While students are working, cover the bulletin board in black or blue paper. Add some star stickers to the board as well as other space themed items such as planets. When the students have finished their assignments add them to the board to complete it.

Limerick Day

May 12th is Limerick Day, and these fun poems are educational as well as humorous. For this bulletin board you can cover the board with whatever color paper you like. Then discuss limericks with the students. Read some limericks the students will find interesting, and explain the rhyme scheme to the students.

Then break students into groups and provide them with topics. You may also allow students to come up with their own topic, or the class can decide on a whole a basic theme. Then help the groups write a limerick and create a visual representation as well. When they projects are done add them to the bulletin board for an educational good time.

These educational bulletin board ideas keep your students happy and learning in May. They are fun and unique, and they remind students that education can be interesting.
