On the inside of the book there are 26 buttons each with a letter of the alphabet on them. When you press the letter is says what the letter is and it's corresponding sound. It then gives a word starting with that letter. So A is for ant and apple. B is for boy and ball. C is for cat and cup. D is for door and dog. E is for egg and eggcup. F is for farmer and fork. G is for goat and goose. H is for horse and hay. I is for igloo and ink. J is for jet and jug. K is for kite and kitten. L is for lemon and leaves. M is for milk and mouse. N is for nut and nest. O is for octopus and orange. P is for pizza and peanut. Q is for quail and quilt. R is for river and radio. S is for saucer, soup, sandwich, salad, and spoon. T is for table, teapot, toast, tea, and tomato. U is for umbrella and uncle. V is for van and vase. W is for window and worm. X is for fox and box. Y is for yak and yacht. Z is for zoo and zebra.
On the soft pages on the inside of the book it teaches your child how to write the letter of the alphabet. It shows the correct direction with arrows how to write the letter. It shows how many times to pick up our pencil to form the letter. The different activities include letters and words, letter writing, find it, letter order, and spelling. On each page there is a bulls eye decal, depending on the activity mode you are in it will either tell you the letter, a word that begins with the letter, the sounds of the letter, or a picture of a word that the letter begins with. On the bottom of each soft page there are sentences using the words of the letters of the alphabet. So for the letter A the sentence will say "An ant sits on an apple" and so on for each letter.
The Write & Learn Letter Book takes 3 AA batteries. I haven't had to replace them yet. What I don't like is that the battery compartment doesn't have a screw back. Thankfully my son hasn't figured out how to open it yet but I like the toys that have the screw on battery compartment better. It is safer for the children not to be able to get to the batteries. The recommended age for this toy is anywhere from 3 years and up. This will be a great teaching tool for preschool children. I like that it has a built in handle so my son can carry it with him around the house.
This will keep your child busy learning with the 17 different teaching activities. It teaches over 60 new vocabulary words and it teaches your child the numbers 1 - 12. My son is playing with it as I write this review. I highly recommend this wonderful Vtech toy. You could purchase it at Toys R Us for $19.99. Amazon.com is selling it for more at $24.95.
