Edward & Son Exotic Rice Toast Crackers, Review

Katri Marson

I wasn't really shopping for crackers the day I found Edward and Son's Exotic Rice Toast but they are purple, naturally, so they caught my eye and enticed me to try them.

These crackers are very light and crispy. The purple rice doesn't really have much of a different taste than the normal brown or white rice but it looks a lot prettier and fancier. I really do like these but for the price of $2.20 or more and for the small amount you get in the box for the price it is just too much, for so little. They are not really everyday snack crackers.

The flavor is a little bland and not overly salty, like the average cracker. There is a nice light nutty hint of sesame seed, but really these are more of a base cracker, not a eat right out of the box cracker. This cracker should be topped with something or dipped for best flavor. They do advertise them as more of a base cracker too, on the box. I, personally, enjoy just munching on them out of the box but it is more for the texture which satisfies my crispy, crunch craving. However, when I did top some with some vegan cheese spread their yumminess quotient went way up. They are definitely a great topping cracker.

One box is a little more than 2 ounces. The package advertises that it comes with 2 individual packaged trays. It is nice to have the two individual trays but they are small and cute. In total there are 4 servings per box, 2 per individual tray.

I think these are more of an entertaining cracker. The exotic purple jasmine rice make them look pretty cool and would probably impress a crowd, especially if you added a colorful topping to contrast the dark purple. Although, again with the small amount in the box you would either need to be entertaining only a small group or buy several boxes and possibly skimp on the rest of your party if you are on a budget.

The Edward & Son Exotic Rice Toast crackers can satisfy most dietary restrictions as they are vegan, gluten free and low in sodium. They are made from 2 different whole grain rice flours and black sesame seeds.

Ingredients: Brown jasmine rice flour, purple rice flour, natural tapioca starch, black sesame seeds, expeller-pressed palm oil, organic evaporated cane juice, salt, natural vitamin E oil

All in all they are really good crackers with a crispy texture I crave. Although, I don't think I will be purchasing these again any time soon and it is mainly because they are too pricey for me to have as an everyday cracker in my pantry. If you are looking for a great cracker for your favorite dip or topping and would like a treat, I do recommend trying these.
