Edwin Valero Kills Himself in Jail. Ex Boxer Arrested for Murdering Wife

Murder and Suicide

Sherry Tomfeld
Edwin Valero, 28, former WBC lightweight champion is dead after hanging himself in his jail cell. Valero was accused and arrested for murdering his 20 year old wife, Jennifer Viera. She was found dead in a hotel room in Valencia with 3 stab wounds.

The hotel security said that Valero had come downstairs from the hotel room and told the clerk that he had killed his wife. This lead to Edwin Valero, ex-boxing champ, to be jailed on suspicion of murder. He was found dead in his cell by suicide, hung with his own clothes tied around the cell bars. So comes the end of a life that knew violence and trouble.

Last month Jennifer Viera, Valero's wife, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries that included a punctured lung from broken ribs. He was charged with "harassing" his wife and also with threatening the medical people that were trying to help her. The prosecutors wanted Edwin jailed but the judge let him go with a restraining order that Valero kept breaking.

Edwin Valero had a hero in his life. Who? Chavez. Chavez apparently liked him too as Valero and Chavez could be seen together and Chavez supporters were also Valero fans. Raising the status of Edwin Valero to hero instead of wife beater.

Edwin Valero could not fight in the U.S. Why? Some say it was because he had been arrested for drunk driving in Texas and his visa was not renewed because of that. But Edwin Valero and his supporters believed it was because Valero was such good friends with Chavez. Valero sported a tattoo of Chavez on his chest and many thought that the relationship between Valero and Chavez is what saved Edwin from being charged and punished in other "incidents".

Edwin Valero was a good boxer. His record was 27-0 and all were by knockouts. Valero was a buzz saw and unfortunately it appears it wasn't reserved just for the boxing ring. Edwin Valero, 28, killed himself in a jail cell. Just another murder and suicide. Such talent, such violence.
