Eerie Glowing Laughter

A Halloween Poem

April Higney
Dark purple skies,
landscape an eerie black,
a cackle, and a howl, in the darkness.
The sounds of chains shaking,
as creatures of the night prepare their attack.

Glowing lights from ghostly presence,
the smell of dried leaves upon the air.
A sweet little firefly floats along by,
not so easy to scare.

A knock upon the door,
it opens, it creaks,
a black cat emerges,
beckoning inside, silently speaks.

Delightful treats,
a chocolate surprise,
decadent sweets,
meet their demise.

Then laughter commences,
of silly balloons of the clown's make,
then off to the next dimly lit house,
where ghouls awake.

Dancing, marching through the street.
Happy Halloween, trick or treat?
Silly pumpkin smiles,
for all these goodies, she'd walk for miles.

Beneath the moon,
now time to wash off the happy painted face,
of her little angel's glittery glow,
read a bedtime story, put away the feathers and lace,
and just one little piece of chocolate for mommy, from the goodies that overflow.
